Half way done with my last MBA course
#1
I just finished CS5003 Computer Graphics with an A. That was my 9th course.
I am now half way done with my capstone course CS6010 Applied Computer Science Research.
I began this course on Oct 15 and will probably finish before December. My GPA is on track to be 9 As and 1 A- so it will probably be a 3.9 or something.
NCU has been a great learning experience for me and has honed my research and writing skills. I truly believe that I am better positioned for doctoral research than if I had studied elsewhere. NCU is very light on handholding and very heavy on independent research and writing.
So if you don't mind being locked in a room for hours reading your course textbook, journal articles and writing research papers, this school is for you. If you had asked me a year ago if I would have enjoyed such a course format, I would have said "heck no" but now I really have grown accustomed to it and actually enjoy it.

Stay tuned for my I'm done post which will hopefully be before Thanksgiving.

WOW!!!! GREAT job so far!!!! It does sound like you're being prepared for a doctorate course of study and you've saved enough time between testing and the self-paced MBA to get the PhD without spending your entire life in school.

I'm not sure that I would enjoy research papers alone. I'm now in my 2nd class, we do one class at a time for eight weeks each. In the first course, the prof gave us one research paper a week with daily reading assignments (around 50 pages) and posts. This class we do two papers a week and quite a bit of forum posting, but the reading isn't as intense. We will have perhaps three or four weekly reading assignments and then some optional reading as well.

I like reading and then going into the classroom forum to gain the perspective of my peers on a given topic. Of course I am the only American in my class, so understanding a foreign point of view on emerging markets is just as valuable as the reading and research I do on my own. If I were in a typical MBA program, I'm not sure that I would feel the same way....

You amaze me dude! Not just in the speed in which you progress, but in the attitude to succeed and the way you just put your mind to it and push through. I'm empowered by knowing what you've done!

Thanks for the progress notes!

Thanks everybody.
Rebel - I think its sort of a mix of personality disorders that allows me to do this Smile

Merlin - yeah stay tuned. Its going to happen. I am actually starting to get burnt out so I can't wait to post that.

Burbuja - it sounds like your program is perfect for you. I would like some interaction as well. I had a little bit of that in my 2 TESC courses on the message board so that was cool. For my doctorate, I am probably going to do one with residencies. Nova Southeastern has mandatory residencies in Ft Lauderdale so that is right up my alley. I can drive down there and make it a mini-vacation and get some much needed interaction with the people walking me through the dissertation process.

I might also choose not to do a doctorate and get another masters, perhaps locally, who knows.

Ryoder you are just setting a land speed record here for completion! Amazing. Man I just have not had the time to get my MBA done. I am taking 3 classes this semester that are not business related. But seeing your progress just makes me want to jump in. I'll make a note to myself that come 2012 I really must get it on its way. Thank you for your inspiration. Also maybe my hot, super smart guy will join me in my MBA quest. Now that would be fun! Smile

I see the "Likes" icon, but can anyone tell me where the "I hate you and I'm pea green with envy icon" is? Ryoder, you make the Everready Bunny look like a slacker!

If you guys see my speed as friendly competition that spurs you on, thats great. Its the best type of competition to have.
I always liked to have a lifting partner so I couldn't slack off. Its nice to have someone chasing a similar dream so that you can focus your efforts.

I am burning out a bit though. I need to reflect at the end of this and decide what the next endeavor will be.

LaterBloomer - turn that envy into inspiration Smile

I don't know, Ryoder. Whining seems like it takes a lot less effort.
