Haiti seriously ?
#1
Dont know if Im just being heartless but hasnt this island had decades of civil unrest and war? Dont they have a country full of infested HIV cases?
Dont they have a population of gangs that make the Bloods and Crips look like community organizers in comparison ?
I dont know why we are giving money this country needs right now to other countries. I understand there are people suffering there but to me it doesnt look like anything other than strategic military placement for a new base or resources we could use.
Either that or the Prez is happy the media attention is off the finance sector and on something else. :willynilly:
Didnt the Philippines and India have massive problems just last year. I dont remember us going all out like this.
Well thought I would bring some of your opinions in on this before I go to bed.

The way I see it - they need help and we're helping. I'm checking my cynicism at the door for the moment.

It's partly political - Health reform isn't going well and the administration wants the public's attention firmly on something besides that right now. They were taking heat for the backdoor deals and C-span coverage before. Now that's all fallen into the background.

It's partly self-interest - I think it's safe to say that we want no part of Haiti itself. That place is a mess, and has been for a century or so. However, what happens there, thanks to ocean currents, affects us as well. There's a huge Haitian population in Florida (Just go into Terminal 4 of FLL one day if you doubt me) and I think the illegal immigration is also a significant problem.

I do believe that much of the attention is due to good will and a sincere desire to help someone so close to our shores. Haiti has had it's relief groups for quite some time now, doing their best to draw attention to it's people. The earthquake is a tragedy, but at least the people are finally getting helped. I just hope the world doesn't lose interest in a week. The cynic in me is watching..

Here at GTMO things are insane. The amount of activity going on here to send aid is truly awe-inspiring. Of course you'll never hear about it. :patriot:

Evil GTMO! Evil! :willynilly:

That's the big part. And the PI are having massive problems right now, too. Lots of political killings, martial law and gun grabbing and oppression going on over there. Of course the press isn't covering that...:toetap:

You are just being heartless. Charity: generous actions or donations to aid the poor, ill, or helpless

Don't mix charity and politics. :patriot:

I second your thoughts Geezer. This is a extreme natural diaster.

I agree, tens of thousands of human beings lost there lives. The President isnt the only one sending money and aid to the country. Every move and generous act isnt a PR move. Its just the right thing to do.

It's interesting to hear how in a time of tragedy we still think some how politics should be mixed with the blood and tears of kids running in the streets. Sure this nation has had it's share of problemS, BUT FOR THOSE OF US requiring a history lesson, please study the impact Haiti had on our own desire from tyranny hundreds of years ago.

And for those in the media that somehow think we should not be helping, well guess GOD should give up on us also, because even after he has given to us the life of his son, we are still ungrateful and do things contrary to his will.

For those of us believing in the boundless love of CHRIST, please take a minute to meditate on what his love really means.

I'm glad the majority of people on this site are actually intelligent people. This is an outrageous statement. Thousands of innocent children are being squashed to death under tons of concrete and rubble, an entire city has been decimated and you post this crap?

Shame on you and everything you "think" is important. Maybe you should study Haiti and it's history before casting hateful thoughts into the universe. Maybe you should "pretend" that your human for a few minutes before spewing such venom, MAYBE you should "act" like an American and care about your fellow man.
