Hello.
I stumbled onto you guys while researching a program for my homeschooled kids. I've decided -- what am I waiting for!? As long as I have kids I won't have money to go back for a BA. And I couldn't care less about "traditional" so I'm going to get my BA NOW!
I've got 79 credits from a community college (AA) most of my electives are journalism/english centered. Some History. So. I was thinking TESC English or History, but I'm not married to it. Journalism seems pointless at this point, and probably difficult to complete online--- except I did write for a newspaper for a while, so maybe the portfolio?
Where do I focus to get the UL classes I'm going to need to finish up?
Feel free to offer any other advice or opinions you've got. I'm just winging it at this point.
(btw I'm not shy with math, it was just unnecessary for the Journalism degree-- so I can use maths as electives if necessary and "easier". )
Nice to meet you all.

How about a humanities degree? I posted a test out degree plan in the degree forum wiki.

Humanities or General/Liberal Studies may be your best bet.
Upper level English credits are hard to come by, test-wise. I'd know since I'm trying to get my English degree from COSC. If you want to continue down that path you'll need to take independent study courses to make up the difference.
Independent Study in Idaho-University of Idaho -- They have a few upper level English classes, and lots in other subjects. A very reasonable price, just make sure you check to see if your course has any proctored exams. Those will likely cost you extra.
Independent Study > Division of Continuing Education > Colorado State University-Pueblo -- This is the other option I'm going with, most likely. Fair price, no proctors, and rebel100 can't stop singing their praises. Reasons enough for me.
https://is.lsu.edu/courselist.asp?Level=...=0&nid=102 -- Seems like they increase their price every time I check. But others have used and enjoyed these.
University Online Course Catalog - BYU Independent Study -- A little too expensive for my tastes, but they are there.
Just a few ideas.

I will repeat the advice often given to people looking at the big 3. Spend the extra money and apply to all three. See which one gives you the best transfer option and go with that.

Welcome! You've already been given the right advice, and I second the suggestion for a humanities degree vs a specific major, but you can poke around and see what else jumps out at you. Speaking of cost, you may qualify for a Pell Grant. Homeschool families often do because they tend to be 1 income with children. You may or may not, but we did, which is what funded the majority of my degree when I went back! Pell can only be used at 1 school at a time, so you may end up using the Pell at one school (the one offering your upper level credit) and not necessarily the one you're enrolled at for degree completion- of course it depends on the specifics of how & where you enroll, but just trying to get you thinking outside the box. The beauty of the big 3 is that all allow you to transfer back in any class that fits into your degree plan. This means price shopping! That is a favorite pass-time of many of us here ha ha.
Welcome the forum, you'll get great help on your journey. Most of us have been exactly where you are (but with less credit starting out!) so you're going to zip through the process in no time I'm sure!

If there were a degree in "degree planning," many on here would have a Phd. It is far more fun to build spreadsheets than work on assignments. Good luck to you!

Welcome! Do you happen to have an old transcript around? If you list your classes ("ENC-101 English Comp 1 3cr") we can give you an idea of how your credits might fit into a degree plan.

AmeliaC,
I echo what the others have said...I'm working on an BA in English from TESC for various reasons, but an English degree is not as "test-out" friendly as other degrees and I do have to take more UL courses, hence, it's more expensive. I'm taking my UL courses from APU, BYU, SNHU and TESC.
Good luck! People on here will have lots of good info to help you get going!
