I was searching for a cheap way to qualify as a full time student and I found the UW Flexible Option $900 for 12c. You pay per Competency Set or as many credits as you can earn in 3 months for $2,250.
Has anyone tried this out?

If you are looking to qualify as a full time student for financial aid, make sure you understand how nonterm financial aid works. UW has some decent information on their
Important Information About Financial Aid page.
Also a competency set at UW, unless I am completely mistaken, is basically the equivalent of a course. Meaning the per competency price is $900 for 3-4 credits.
That makes sense if you do the math. They are charging $9k a year for the enrollment option if enrolled for a consecutive 52 weeks. 'Normal' minimum progress would be 30 credits a year, which is $300/credit which puts it at the same price as the per competency price, with the expectation an enrollment student would be accomplishing more while utilizing similar resources as someone paying the per competency price.

Thank you for the clarification, the way it was laid out on the websit made it look like it was $900 per subject.
But the 3 months for $2250 is a good deal if your a wi resident, the tip grant is $1,800. If you could do all 12credits it would only be $37 per credit.

My main question would be, what reference books do you need in order to finish their programs.?

So I talked with the people at flex. In order to keep grant money you have to do 6 months of the program. That's $4500, if you're a WI resident $1800 is covered by state grants, I was told I would get the full $5775 in pell grants. He said most people earn over 12 credits per 3 month subscription, the recorded being 32. I asked about materials, he said most of it is OCW from other schools and that the books they do use are purposefully the cheapest they could find that cover the course work and that a lot of the reading could be done for free online. They will take CLEP test as previously earned credit but they can not be applied to your flex degree while your in the program. Also most of the assessments have practice quizzes so you can gauge where you are.
I'm new to this so I'm not sure how good a deal it is. I don't see another way to take advantage of the state grants, the way wi has it set up you have to be enrolled in a degree plan to qualify for any aid.
I have to take a placement test and I can't start till October because you have to apply one full month before the first of the month that you want to start.
Anyone have any thoughts?
