For the price of the CLEP test, are you able to take it until you pass or is the $65 fee every time you test?

You pay each time, plus you have to wait six months between each attempt.

Just wanted to say that i took and passed both the brit lit and american lit tests, but my university required essays for each. i failed the american essay and passed the brit (i don't know WHY). I know this isn't your situation, but I would definitely recommend trying the brit lit test. it's different material, you may know more about it, and you'll be able to gauge your amount of studying a little bit better. just from my experience, it was definitely worth it to go ahead and take the other test.
i also know this is an old thread. oh well!

Even though I havn't taken Amer. Lit or Analizing and Inter. Lit, I do know how it feels to fail a test by a few points. However, I am pleased to say that I have not failed a single CLEP/DSST since I became a member of this forum and IC. I guess what I'm saying don't get discouraged. Take the retest and you should do fine. Atleast now you know what to expect the second time around.

I used only the Idiot's Guide to American Lit and the Peterson's practice tests and studied for 10-15 hours and passed. I am a reader and enjoy reading so that may have helped.
Good Luck!

Wow, I feel embarrassed I tried the exam again 1 year and a couple months later and got a 49.
I used the same notes I used the first time around. I think I am going to attempt the English Literature CLEP. The English Literature CLEP breakdown seems to be easier than the American Literature.35-40% Knowledge of: * Literary background * Identification of authors * Metrical patterns * Literary references * Literary terms 60-65% Ability to: * Analyze the elements of form in a literary passage * Perceive meanings * Identify tone and mood * Follow patterns of imagery * Identify characteristics of style * Comprehend the reasoning in an excerpt of literary criticism
- Passed
Principles of Marketing Principles of Management Analyzing and Interpreting Literature College Algebra Calculus English Composition - Failed Intro to Business Law American Literature - 47 & 49

Sache,
Sorry to hear that you didn't pass the American Lit exam, I know it wasn't easy to study for! I took it recently and it was my hardest CLEP so far. I took the English Lit exam too, I think it was easier but it wasn't easy. I didn't study for it as long as I should have... because I was studying for 3 exams at once. I purchased the Idiots Guide to English Lit and that really helped me A LOT, I also used Pass Your Class and I used Wiki heavily. In my humble opinion the Idiot's Guide is the best resource I found for either Exam. I had a friend say that the Pass Your Class guide is pretty useful for the English Lit, but I didn't use it. I did use it for American Lit and it was a condensed version of the Idiot's Guide Book. A & I Literature is a good exam to take before this one btw, there is some overlap. Good Luck!
