Hello Everyone
I got my OPI language test results back from ACTFL (American Council on Testing Foriegn Languages)
I got an Advanced/ High Superior rating which means that I get 8 Lower Division + 4 Upper Division credits!! I am practically dancing for joy!!
These credits are forwarded thru ACE to the institution of choice. I have sent them to TESC. Lets see how they fall into my evaluation.......
Will keep you guys posted. Thanks to all those who gave me the links to the possibility of language testing.
(The exam fyi was $140 + $75 to get it sent to ACE)

Way to go! Nothing like getting a nice big chunk of credits like that. Upper level, too! Sweet!

Don't you think that the NYU exam would just duplicate the ACTFL exam credits? I mean how many Foreign language credits can you apply towards a degree? Do you guys think that I would benefit from additional credits in this area.I don't even know how TESC will apply these credits in my liberal arts degree plan. I could consider the NYU exam if need be.
Please advise.

TESC is going to call these credits humanities. Since you have L.A. as your major, I'm guessing you will get 6 lower and 4 upper inside your 33 credit concentration. The other 2 lower will go into your gen ed requirements (and even gen ed electives).
ALSO, do know that the "place" your credits fall is done by computer, and so don't be alarmed if things shift around a bit when you add new credits.
If you take the NYU exam for the same language, I bet it duplicates, but is there any chance you can do another language? Maybe a similar language that you can study? Sometimes people who are bi-lingual have a knack for learning languages easily- this might be you! If so, you can fill up the rest of your gen ed humanities and then overflow into your gen ed electives. (any new upper level would go into your major- just watch the max allowed in one area as well as the max of 6- 100 level credits in major)

I think that there would be some overlap between the OPI and the NYU exams, but I think you'd still end up earning some extra credits. Any credits earned would probably be applicable to the degree program. I'd email TESC just to find out.
