Google's new $100 million Google Career Certificates Fund
#11
If one hustles can't they complete a Google cert in a month or 2 on Coursera? That would be $98, right?

Just saying, if someone is only making $12-15/hr, they might not HAVE $100 to spare for Coursera or access to other resources. Being able to make almost double that, then only paying $100/mo. afterward would seem like a pretty sweet deal.
In progress:
TESU - BA Computer Science; BSBA CIS; ASNSM Math & CS; ASBA

Completed:
Pierpont - AAS BOG
Sophia (so many), The Institutes (old), Study.com (5 courses)
ASU: Human Origins, Astronomy, Intro Health & Wellness, Western Civilization, Computer Appls & Info Technology, Intro Programming
Strayer: CIS175, CIS111, WRK100, MAT210

Actually, it's only $39/month. Also, some have reported finishing some of the classes during the 7 day free trial.

If they're making that $$ then they likely get a tax refund and could use that, or pick up a quick side job to cover $100 . Far better than $100 every month for 60 months. I get what you're saying but I'm a tight wad and see the long term in basically everything. Anyone can find a side hustle to make a quick $100 if they have the drive. My mind says, " You can't possibly know what might happen over a 5 yr span of time so best not to tack on more debt than is needed."  The $15 an hr, 40 hrs wk x 52 wks is also a much lower tax bracket, and isn't close to being half the $40,000. I'd say do coursera, or better yet, go to work for google straight out of the gate and let them pay you to learn and get your cert.

I hope those people would qualify for and sign up for Coursera's financial aid.

I just searched for free courses and certs on coursera this morning. This cert popped up.

Google hires people and trains them while they pay them as do some of the other IT related companies. As others have pointed out, the google cert can be gotten for a few hundred. Let's see how this looks all spelled out.
Single: Gross income $40,000.
A simple google search turned this up: ( I could look this up on the IRS website but I won't)

Okay, so now you're down to $32,309. Let's assume your boss has a good insurance plan and they only take out $20.00 per week from your check. Now you're down to $31,269.00. We won't get in to anymore deductions because many of those are voluntary, let's go with this.
This equates to $601.33 a week or $2405. per month. With standard bills: groceries, rent/house payment, car payment, insurances, cell phones, internet, gas for the car, utilities......a $95 payment per month for 60 months is a lot to consider.
Just another form of student debt.

9 states including Texas have no state income tax.

So I got $33,893 left out of $40,000.  ($12950 standard deduction for 2022)
Degrees: BA Computer Science, BS Business Administration with a concentration in CIS, AS Natural Science & Math, TESU. 4.0 GPA 2022.

Last time I looked at Coursera it was $49 a month. Did it go down? Heck if you can get the cert done during a free trial why not? Seems silly to charge people $6K for something that can be done for $100 or less. Seems like a rip off.

Most of the coursera courses are $49/month but the Google ones are discounted to $39.
