Good study advice for my TECEPS?
#1
I decided to take some TECEPS to help with my degree at TESU, as they were offering 5 free ones! I chose Public Speaking, Writing for Success, Eng Comp 2, Intro to sociology, and marriage and the family. How hard will these be? Has anyone taken the TECEPS for any of these? Study guides or advice? Thank you in advance

Most people don't bother with Public Speaking. There are only a couple of threads about it and not much feedback at all. This one seems to be the most relevant/useful: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...E-feedback

For the writing ones, you need to know how to do citations properly (at least for Eng. Comp 2), IIRC. And there are a couple of parts where people have said that you're supposed to use previous work you've done, but you can't actually go back in the exam. So you should get used to copying everything before you go to the next screen. I think dfrecore has taken these and may have more information. With both exams, you're permitted a writing handbook, with Writing for Success also allowing a dictionary and a blank sheet of paper. But the proctor may try to argue whether or not these are allowed items.

Intro to Sociology - I think you should be able to use the ModernStates guide for the CLEP exam for this. It's fully multiple choice and may be the easiest exam of the lot.

For the Marriage and the Family TECEP, this post from 2019 says that Study.com is supposed to have a study guide. https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...#pid283279 This post is from 2016 but should still be (more or less) relevant: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...#pid204567 You can rent the eTextbook version of the 13th edition (current is the 14th edition) on Amazon for $42 or you can buy the eTextbook for $73. https://www.amazon.com/Marriage-Family-E...588&sr=1-2 This is not possible with the current 14th edition; you must buy the paper version of that textbook. Honestly, though, I'd guess that the 13th edition should be sufficient for passing the TECEP.

Furthermore, each TECEP has their own respective 'materials/textbooks' and other info for study guides within the TECEP pdf document telling you what's going to be on the exam. An example, I suggest to get the CLEP College Comp with Essay done on ModernStates.org as a learning guide for the two English TECEPs you've got.

For your Sociology, do the same as CLEP/MS has that covered as well... Again, the easiest is to get some OER (Open Education Resource) such as Saylor.org, Onlinedegree.com, ModernStates, anything else, etc that you can take the courses content for free learning, it's the exams that cost you. You can get/use free resources...

The textbooks they used to recommend from Cengage for the TECEPS often also have websites that aligned with them. Those websites used to have crossword puzzles, flashcards, and multiple answer quizzes I found super useful. Back then they could be accessed for free but I'm not sure if that's still true.
