Getting the run around from local colleges
#21
Brian12 Wrote:They're asking me to take a humanities/fine arts course. I think I have a choice of music, art history, ethics and theater. I've already taken art history and ethics but I'm not gonna argue with them about it. I'm still not sure what I should do. I'd to like to apply to some competitive colleges but I know they will want to see a years worth of courses since I've been out so long.

I don't think that "competitive colleges" or any other ones, want to see "a year's worth of of courses since you've been out so long." I've never really even heard of that before. That's not a requirement that you will see. Colleges get people who haven't been to school in a long time all the time. They won't be the least bit surprised to see you applying with older credits at all. Not even a little bit.

If you want to go to a specific college, I suggest you just go to their website and see what it takes to transfer there. None will require an AA, so that is not necessary to get if you don't really want it.

My mom had trouble receiving her associate degree in early childhood because of a math requirement also her school did not accept ACE credits. I advised her to transfer to Pierpont. Pieroont accepted all her credits including Aleks intermediate and college algebra. Now she will be graduating in may. Her transcripts reflects that she has completed her degree with an area of study in Early childhood studies. If you have 15 or more credits in one area you can have your transcripts reflect that. Also Pierpont accepts ACE credits. And there's no change for the degree. Totally free program. Call or email Mrs Nancy from the link and she will assist you.

This is an example of the unknown number of schools out there that aren't listed as members of the American Council of Education that accept ACE credits. Central Texas College is also not a member, but accepts ACE credits. Some members are convinced that only 200 schools accept ACE credits, and they're pretty much the ones listed as partners of Straighterline, ACE Alternative Credit Project, etc. This is clearly not true. This is also in addition to the number of schools that are members of the ACE network that have been falsely accused on this forum of not accepting any ACE credits.

I thought there was already a thread on the West Virginia community colleges.

You're right. When I looked up the school I somehow was mistaken and thought it was outside of WV, I thought this was a similar but separate program form the WV network. Don't mind me.
