What's happening DF! First of all, thank you all for helping out my siblings in my earlier thread. They're back on track and it's gotten me to look a little harder on myself, too!
I was wondering if anyone had insight to failed or 'D is passing' courses being overturned using a CLEP/DANTE.
Example: Two history courses taken both passed with Ds. Could you then take two history CLEPs to remove the letter grade?
I know this may sound weird but that's pretty much what I'm trying to figure out.
Thank you for your time!

An actual college course will always take precedence over alternative credit, so taking a CLEP will do nothing. The only way to take bad grades out of your GPA is to retake it at the original school, if they allow that. Retaking it at different school will generally leave BOTH grades in your GPA.

CLEP/DSST doesn't change your GPA, because it doesn't do anything to your GPA, good or bad. You only get a "P" or "CR", neither of which is calculated into your GPA.
Check your school's retake policy to see what they do - they may let you do a full replacement, which is the best way to fix your GPA. The only other way to fix it is to take multiple courses and get good grades on all of them - but it takes a lot to get your GPA up once it's low.

While I've never seen a policy that specifically stated you could do grade replacement with credit by exam, I've seen many that specifically stated you couldn't. I would estimate the best changes of getting this to happen would be at a school that happily deals with a lot of pass/fail credit. I think the odds of this working at a traditional university are pretty slim.
