Can I pass Excelsiors Foundation of Gerontology exam using only IC cards?

Depends on your knowledge you have already...have you searched the specific exam feedback? If you belong to IC, you can search there..or do a search of the forums.

You might want to consider the practice tests that EC provides for each exam. The practice tests cost $65 for 2 and you take them online--they are 100 questions per test. If you find practice tests helpful I would highly recommend getting these tests. They show you exactly what to expect on the real exam and are VERY close to the real thing. Also, don't forget to download from the EC website the free Exam Content Guide that comes with each exam. The outline shows you exactly what will be covered. The Guide includes a free short practice test as well.

No, the practice tests are not necessary! I suggested them in case you find practice tests helpful. I find practice tests helpful so it was worth it to me. Many people take the exams without practice tests.

It is a multiple-choice test, so you don't even have to study in order to pass it.

That said, if you are really committed to learning the material and scoring your best, I suggest that you buy (or borrow) the recommended texts, go through the exam content guide and take some detailed notes, then make sure you thoroughly understand the practice questions and answers given in the content guide. That's my secret to success in the two ECE's that I have taken so far

I'm taking this exam within the next few months myself. A hot little tip is that for these tests, you do not need the latest edition of the textbooks. If you get even one version behind, the cost is next to nothing! I have bought all of my books from alibris.com. You can get two books for $1 each, then use the $1 off coupon code. I would agree with this one. It is most important to learn the types of questions that you will see on the exam, and the free sample questions on the content guide do this just nicely.

ECE's have a way of trying to confuse you with the way a question is worded. If you are familiar with the sample questions, then you will have a good grasp of how they try to do this, and what kind of an answer they are looking for.

It's possible to pass by either randomly selecting enough correct answers (mathematically improbable) or using a combination of test taking skills and prior knowledge to pass (very probable). My experience has been that those test taking skills are a much stronger determinant of how well one does on any of these exams.
