We also pay school taxes - including not only our home property taxes but our personal property taxes (cars, boats, RV's, etc.). About 90% of the funds go directly to the schools.
The law that allows him to play sports at school and be homeschooled changed when I lived in SC. It has been like this for around a decade now.
Personal property taxes aren't school taxes in SC. In SC, homeowners pay property taxes on their home. They don't pay school property taxes. School property taxes are paid only by those who own multiply houses (such as rentals), second home owners (like snowbirds and vacation homes), and commercial properties. If you're paying school property taxes and you only own 1 house, then you definitely should speak to your county. We had to show proof to our county that we were in the process of becoming SC residents to have the school property taxes removed from the property tax bill after we moved into the house we built.
