Flashcards.. Use Only Question or Question and Explanations?
#1
Hi all. First time using IC .It takes me way to long to click through just one section of the cards, I feel making a study guide will work better for me.
Do you think just copying and pasting all the flashcard questions and studying them will work to pass the test or do you actually need to know the explanations as well?

Know the explanations as well. If you don't understand concepts, it's kind of hard to answer some of the test questions.

Thanks for your response. Dang that just seems like a lot, almost a paragraph of info for each question. 8 Sections 40-50 questions each. I've been more of a memorize key words and phrases kind of guy all my life. Maybe I'm wrong but all I really care about is passing the test not so much retaining all of this stuff.

As Latebloomer posted you really need to learn the concepts because some of the questions or scenarios require you to use the concepts to properly answer the questions. Since IC isn't a copy of the exams to just try to memorize the questions or terms won't allow you to pass most of the exams. These exams are accepted by schools as a method of testing proficency of the subject matter, which implies that if you need that material as a foundation course for a later higher level course you will know the concepts and be able to build on it. I worked hard to pass my exams and I feel I learned a lot of the material and I have used a lot of it in my undergrad and graduate degree courses. I have also used a lot of it in my job as a college instructor. I'm proud to be able to learn and prove my proficiency via exams, but if you try to short circuit that process just for the sake of racking up credits with little regard to learning the material you will only do youself, your employer and all of us a disservice because it could reflect negatively on the ability to obtaining credits via testing out. I wish you the best of luck in your educational journey.

Well said Marianne. I agree with everything you had to say. I'm going to work on taking a more patient approach with these exams instead of just cramming to pass a test. Thanks for your feedback.
