So I have finished Penn Fosters Fin management 101 ... or so I thought.... I just submitted to have it transferred to my ACE account. All the assignments I did were 80 and above. The final I received a 63. But when I do the weighted average online calculator ( I have done two of them) It says I have a 85.87%. Nowhere on the syllabus does it say you have to have a certain grade on the final to get credit for the class.
This is the message I received....All courses have been approved through ACE with the exception of FIN101, Financial Management. You will still need to retake the exam or you can select to accept the grade as is with no guarantee of passing that particular class.
My current grade is 85.87% What is going on??? Has this happened to anyone else?
THanks!

I think you are missing a step so I did a quick rough estimate and graded all 5 quizzess as an example. 88+88+86+84+80=426/5=85.2*67%=57.08
The average for quizzes 85.2 x 67%=57.08 and the final exam grade was 63 x33%=20.79; the course grade would be 78. Penn Foster grading scale 75-80 = C/Average

You could either provide all 5 quiz grades if you want me to calculate the exact course grade. Or just accept the final grade knowing that even when I lowballed the quizzes at 80 the course grade was 74, D/Passing. Either way you would pass the course by both Penn Foster and ACE standards.

So I just went back and I had accidentally added in original test grades and retake grades. So I REDID the calculation.
These are the scores:
85
95
100
85
90
All the above is weighted at 67%
63 was my final grade with a weight of 33%
I'm getting 81.76% final grade.....
Why are they telling me I might fail the class?

Your math is correct. The red flag may be that penn foster will not let their students pass a course if they failed the final exam, even if the cumulative score is a pass. (There was a similar scenario with Straighterlines Intro Psychology a while back.) This would have no effect on an individual purchasing independent courses, you will be awarded ACE credit.

It is probably just that in cases of an exception, the instructor must manually approve the grade and mark the course as complete.
Grading Scale (revised)
90 –100 - A/Excellent
80 - 89 - B/Good
70 - 79 - C/Average
Below 70 - F/Failing
Edit to add - Found the following in the college catalog (link below):
Corrected the grade scale - D's are no longer awarded. p17
I used the grading scale from my initial course guide. The scale was revised 5-2012.
Students who do not pass their proctored exams may be required to take a makeup exam. p18
Makeups on proctored exams are only required if the course grade is failing. p19
