So last time I checked out the list of institutions which accept ACE credits there were about 2200 - now I'm looking and seeing only about 400. Has something changed, or is the ACE website's list messed up? I'm trying to put together some tips for homeschool families and showing them a list of only 400 colleges isn't going to inspire much enthusiasm.
Here Researching for my son, who has done the following:
Community College: Intro to Philosophy, Fundamentals of IT, English Comp 1
Saylor: Intro to Business, Principles of Marketing, Corporate Communication
Shmoop: US History 2 (WGU won't accept this)
ALEKS: Int. Algebra, College Algebra
Study.com: Personal Finance, Principles of Finance, HR Management, Global Business, Advanced Operations Management
Straighterline: US History 2, Environmental Science, US History, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, English Comp 2, Principles of Management, Business Law, Business Ethics, Psychology, Organizational Behavior, Accounting 1,Communication, Managerial Accounting, Statistics
Ed4Credit: Managing Information Systems
Sophia: Project Management
WGU: Bachelors in HR Management
Second son is currently attending Penn Foster for his high school diploma, then on to Ashworth for An Associates in Criminal Justice

I think it is only a swag? ACE does NOT really know if it is 400 or 2200. Colleges are all a case by case.
Same with CLEP. Some take them all and some none or only a few if you max out the score.
It is still all on the student to do research where THEY want to attend. That being said I do support ACE and what it tries to do.

Maybe they've started to get honest with their users? My list, which is unofficial of course, has closer to 200. 2000 has always been a joke imo.

Interesting - and very good to know, thank you. I'm a huge fan of it for "our" purposes but it's a real shame if they were padding the numbers to that extent and making students think "most" brick and mortar schools will accept them. Not cool. and I certainly don't want to mislead anyone as I try to help.

So many schools, when you search ACE, come up with Military-only policies for it. So many, many schools will take ACE-recommended courses from a JST, but for regular folks, it's not much of a thing.
CLEP is still the gold standard I think, even our CSU's here in CA (the state schools that aren't UC's) and CC's take CLEP by mandate from the CSU board. They needed a way to get students the ability to get those LL credits without taking up seats in impacted schools, and this was the way to do it. So many students were stuck in the "I need this class, but I can't get it, it's always full" circle of hell, and couldn't graduate in 4 (or 5 or 6) years. So it's a good way to get the graduation rates up without costing them any money. Kind of a win-win. 30cr max with CLEP, and not all CLEP exams will work for requirements (forget the English Comp for example, almost no one will take it). I think this is where a LOT of the ACE numbers came from (CLEP).
Many of the CC's will take DSST's as well, although they usually won't transfer to CSU's.

ACE listed 2000+ schools long before ACP came around, so I don't think that's it.

I don't know if they were misleading people on purpose or if they just didn't think they should have 2 lists (takers /givers). They were very careful to say that the colleges participated in ACE - but the distinction is that they weren't all RECEIVING colleges, rather some on that list were PROVIDERS of ACE credit (my local CC is on the list and after much investigation and credit denial I was able to locate the courses they offered- they were a CEU product that would be worth ACE credit if you used it in their certificate program, but they accepted no other ACE at all).
Cookderosa -Is your list in one of your books?
Nope- on my blog. My book is from 2012, quite outdated. https://homeschoolingforcollegecredit.co...lege-list/
