Feeling overwhelmed
#1
Hi there

Married, sole bread winner, 34, two kids in North Carolina. Have a good career currently but thinking of pursuing my dream of being a therapist/trauma specialist. I have no education at the moment. WGU has a bachelors of psychology now. It feels scary to consider making the leap, the investment, and doing something new. My kids are young so I want to enjoy the time with them as much as possible. Is it better to pursue knocking out the degree at an accelerated rate or taking one class at a time and going the long game? Could I take one class at a time that is condensed?

Those occupations you listed generally require not just a Bachelor's but a graduate degree in Psychology or related field. WGU gives a pass/fail option which could make it difficult for you if you would want to get into a good graduate program that requires 3+ GPA. So, I'd recommend University of Maine at Presque Isle's Psychology degree since at least they grade you, and it can potentially be the cheapest option as well. Here is the link: https://www.umpi.edu/yourpace/academic_p...sychology/

I'd also research which possible grad programs you'd be interested in beforehand to see if alt-credits (CLEP, ACE, etc) for classes are acceptable, or if certain classes for the major need to be taken as graded college credit taken in class. That way you can potentially save a lot of money further by taking classes at Sophia/Study.com and then transferring in as much alt-credit as you can before you would start at college.
