I love Jane Austen! But I have to ask... who is Edith Wharton and what does she write? I'm clueless in this regard.

I've always 'liked' books and reading, but not until relatively recently have I really read just for the sake of reading. I simply adore it now. Can't go to sleep without reading for 30 minutes or so...
I'm a fantasy girl. The Chronicles of Narnia, the Harry Potter series, and Peter and Wendy (the story of Peter Pan has always fascinated me); love the Lord of the Rings movies, but haven't got around to reading the books (I know, I'm horrible - it won't be much longer or I'll burst!)
C. S. Lewis is a favorite, but I can't rightly say I've read a whole lot of him. I adore many quotes by him, which tells me that I'd love his books. They're also on the future reading list.
Anne of Green Gables has a fond place in my heart. I can't get enough of Anne's imagination and Gilbert's... er, way with words, should I say? He's amazing, haha. :o
One of my favorite people of all time is Elisabeth Elliot. Goodness, I love that woman. Practically anything by her I've read or can't wait to read. Favorites are Quest for Love and Let Me Be a Woman.
A new favorite book (and thus author) would be The God Who Is There by Francis Schaeffer. Not only is he extremely logical, and brings it down to an understandable level, his compassion for man is incomparable. I want to be just like him. So many intelligent people waste their brains by not giving a moment's thought to people dying for truth. He's the example of how not to be that way.
as for some good books on living life as a Christian, I love the authors: Eric and Leslie Ludy, Joshua Harris, and of course, Elisabeth Elliot.
I love many books. But undoubtedly my favorite is the one by which I live my life. My favorite books of the Bible are 1 John, James, Romans, Ephesians, Psalms, and Proverbs.
If someone were to ask me tomorrow for a good book reccomendation, I would, depending on the person, suggest either The God Who Is There, or Adam by Ted Dekker. Ohmyword... that book is incredible. I highly, highly suggest you read it.

Lewis goodness.
The Screwtape Letters is just about as amazing. The Great Divorce is fine too.

......The Long Ships, by Frans Gunnar Bengsston.(sic?) Story of the Vikings about 950 AD.....old book, out of print, may sound dated/lame, but if you like adventure, there is none better. I read this book at least every 2 or 3 years, it is that good. I don't believe I've ever read another book twice, except for studying.
From Wikipedia:
The Long Ships or Red Orm (original Swedish Röde Orm) is a best-selling Swedish novel written by Frans Gunnar Bengtsson 1894-1954. The novel is divided into two parts, published in 1941 and 1945, with two books each.
It is one of the most widely read books in Sweden, topping the charts of most loaned books at Swedish libraries for many years. The first part was translated to English by Barrows Mussey as Red Orm in 1943, but later editions and newer translations by Michael Meyer use the title The Long Ships.
........ At the other end of the time/space continuum:The Warlock in Spite of Himself,Christopher Stasheff
From Wikipedia:
The Warlock in Spite of Himself is a science fantasy novel by American author Christopher Stasheff, published in 1969. It is the first book in the Warlock of Gramarye series.
The novel centers around Rod Gallowglass, a SCENT agent, who stumbles across the planet Gramarye. Immediately upon landing he is thrust into a world of medieval people, witches and warlocks, and all manor of mythical creatures. Rod is aided by his faithful companion Fess, an epileptic robot....
I hope this helps. Greg

I read a book after seeing the movie version of it. It is called "Giant" by Edna Ferber and is a great piece of fiction.

Ooh, thanks for the reccomendation! We may have that book... I'll have to check.
Have you read his sci-fi trilogy? I only read Perelandra... by far one of the strangest books I've ever read, haha. Although, it was the middle book, which might explain some confusion.

His sci-fi is rather strange, but I enjoyed reading them. I think they probably make more sense when read altogether.
I really like the Screwtape Letters, Mere Christianity, The Weight of Glory... they are all so good! The Great Divorce seemed a little strange to me, but it's been several years since I read it. I want to read it again sometime.
Annakate, I also love Elisabeth Elliott and Let Me Be a Woman is one of my favorites. I also have a biography on Amy Carmichael by her.
And Anne of Green Gables is wonderful. Have you read the whole series? I think my favorite is the last one, Rilla of Ingleside. It's funny and sad at different points... a very good book. Little Women and all Louisa May Alcott's books are wonderful too.
Oh... and to add to my previous list, I also love Witness by Whittaker Chambers as a history book/spy novel.
Ah! I love talking about books!!!

It is a unique picture of heaven that you will not find anywhere else. Strange it may be, but it is nothing if not finely conceived.
