So I am having trouble coming up with ideas of which classes are good to take for my BALS for TESC.. I need 3 LL courses and 2 UL courses.. does anyone have any suggestions on which courses would be fairly easy and fast to complete.. I do not want to do any CLEP or DSST. I would like courses from either study.com, SL, or somewhere similar... Also for English Comp II is the best option through SL and does it matter which one I choose? I also noticed SL has raised their prices as textbooks are now included with the course..

You don't have to buy the textbooks - some links take you to those options only - go to the main site and look there - my son has done about 10 courses in the past 2 months and most were $49 each. Comp 2 was a bit more because of the additional grading requirements. He finished English Comp 2 in 3 days, btw - several essays but they were graded quickly and the other quizzes seemed easy from what he said.

Oh ok I see.. Thank you for the information I have been pretty worried about taking courses from SL due to so many bad reviews on google nice to hear it's possible to do well in the courses.

I think the bad reviews are mostly people who don't know how to click a button or two and cancel a membership. My son has taken Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, English Comp 2, Communications, Environmental Science, US History 2, Business Ethics, Business Law, Psychology, Organizational Behavior, and probably a few I can't think of off-hand, all in the past 2 months. He used several coupons and saved a bunch of money on the course fees, and I bought his books used on Amazon. It's been a great deal - I wish there were more courses he needed, but he's almost done with what he can take there.

Don't pay attention to the negative reviews for SL. Cancellations of membership don't actually take place until the last day of your term so I would always cancel the current month. You can undo it later. Sometimes life happens and then you end up with a $99 charge, so always cancel it. You can do the same thing with ALEKS as well.
As far as speed, SL is probably the fastest method after CLEP/DSST/TECEP. If you have the e-book and a 12-hour block, just blast through the whole course and take advantage of the open-book nature of the non-proctored exams. Don't forget you can repeat exam #1 after 24 hours but before taking the final for a better grade even though the remaining exams are not repeatable. The first exam is a good way to figure out how to get through the rest of the course quickly without hurting your grade. Ideally, you will show up at the proctored final with an overall score of 69.5 or better. If it is below 69.5, random guessing might be enough to get to 69.5.

I took the English Comp II TECEP, and found it pretty easy. I didn't study for it either. I'd rather test out of something I think I can pass than take a class if at all possible.

I would recommend the History of the Vietnam War from Study.com for some easy UL credits. Take the 108 Vietnam War course because that one does not have a project. Just the quizzes and the final. Even with that course number, it comes in as UL at TESU. I believe that is the shortest course they offer for credit too. It only has about 40 quizzes. You could easily finish the course in a day.

It comes into TESU as HIS-351.

Don't worry, a lot of us here love StraighterLine! The majority of these negative reviews are by 1 person who got caught cheating on StraighterLine and didn't receive ACE credits for their courses--this person is mentally ill and has been constantly posting negative reviews under multiple identities everywhere they can to smear StraighterLine.
