Failed Network Technology TECEP
#1
As you all know, TESU gave everyone until the May term to take TECEPs for residency credit. So, I had to sign up for several TECEPs within a short period of time. For subjects such as Microeconomics, I can study quickly with the Instantcert flashcards. Plus, business and the social sciences are familiar to me. I have no work experience in IT and no academic background in networking, so most of what is on the Network Technology TECEP is new to me. I really needed to read either the recommended textbook or the open textbook linked to in the Saylor course, but I did not have enough time. Oh, well. I'll just attempt the CSU Global CBE for Cloud Computing. This just means that I have to pass the remaining three TECEPs I registered for.

I feel your pain! I have 15cr towards residency, I need 1 more. So I signed up for 3 that I need to graduate. I still haven't finished studying for all of them, and am trying to figure out when to take them all. I've decided to spend 100% of my time on Strategic Management, since I HAVE to take that one as a TECEP anyway. Worst case scenario is I've wasted $228 on the other 2, but at least I can take them elsewhere if I don't pass. Ugh, and I hate the book, so I'm going so slowly and procrastinating... :nopity:

I think I only had six residency credits when they announced that TECEPs would no longer count. I've found little time to study for tests. I really only wanted to do one test per month until I finished the BSBA. I have three TECEPs to take this month. Medical Terminology is my backup, which I'll be needing now. The rest of the tests I signed up for are needed for the BSBA. I'm done with the ASNSM as long as I meet the residency requirement. I should have signed up for an additional easy exam.

That bites! I'm feeling your pain though about not having enough time to study. I watched a TedTalks video that said 15 hours of intense studying & you can learn the basic elements of pretty much anything. Unfortunately this last go around with TECEPS I didn't even have 15hrs to devote to each one. Sometime life is just too busy. At least you tried though, & if you decide to take it again you'll have a better advantage of knowing what will be covered by the exam!

This advice is to late for Sanantone but is for anyone reading this later who maybe considering this exam after a quickreview of the material. If you want a condensed study guide, pick up a used copy of one of the old CompTIA Network+ Exam Crams or a similar style of review book. The Exam Crams were usually around 300 pages and should cover most of the topics on the exam.

Why not retake the network TECEP? You've seen the exam. You know you have to memorize the OSI model as part of the studying. Neither option counts towards residency. And the CSU-G exam costs a lot more money. I don't think this exam is particularly hard as long as you either study or have previous IT experience. I think a cram book suggested above is sufficient. If you can pass sys analysis at CSU-G with studying, I know you can pass this one and save yourself some money.
