FEMA -- TESC will no longer accept
#11
Yep I replied to the other thread as well. I can see the purpose of cancelling them if they are deemed to be "too easy." Although for some people those classes could be beneficial to their line of work (like with my dh). I wonder if they might can find a way to offer a TECEP for use after taking the classes or some other way of verifying that you learned anything from it? Oh well it really only amounts to 9 extra tests which is not a whole lot in the course of a bachelor's but the money part sucks.

Ugh. This is some pretty scary news.
I have 24 credits with FEMA and am still inside the academic evaluation process...
I really hope they get accepted as I submitted my FEMA transcript to the school a month ago. :/
I'm a 19 year old, Software Engineer, who is enrolled at TESC for a B.A. in Computer Science. My bachelors coursework is completed and I am waiting for graduation to roll around. Will start pursuing ALM in Information Technology with a concentration in Software Engineering from Harvard Extension School sometime in the coming year.

Thanks for the quick reply, and sorry to all those people that put in the time to do the FEMA courses.

They probably still could be "washed" by the Fredricksburg MD Community College which is the way to do it at Excelsior. Obviously it costs about 77 per credit hour that way but better than a whole lot of FEMA knowledge in your head and not on the transcript. I've never transcribed the three or four that I have, I used the information as a security officer and wasn't going to "wash" them for the price since I had much easier electives to transfer in. As far as I remember they are listed as CEU's and some colleges don't like the sound of CEU's. I wish I had known about the search feature on the pdf. Then I could have gotten higher grades for work. Smile
Don't forget that gaining college credit by taking exams is one of the reason's we're here. That's mainly possible through the flashcards made available by the owner of this forum : InstantCert Plus of course your hard work in learning and reviewing

Hi Everyone,

I will reply to the other thread as well, but just wanted you to know that I just got off the phone with TESC. As per email confirmation from them, the last transcript I sent them was my last FEMA transcript. From what I can gather they received it on the 28th of February (thank God it was before March 5th) and the first one on February 7th. The adviser confirmed that those credits should be accepted, though she said my evaluation was undergoing an update and I will be getting an email when that has been done. I'm sure that the word will be final by then, but it all looks good now, though I will wait to breathe a sigh of relief until then. Just FYI.

Wow.That is unfortunate. I am so glad my FEMA credits were processed in October. The crazy thing is I have been telling a lot of college students to take them and today someone asked my how to get these free credits. Now that they waited it is too late.

Are TEEX courses free? Does TESC give credit for them? Are they harder? I'm trying to understand why not just substitute TEEX for FEMA instead of getting upset about the loss of FEMA.

The TEEX courses are better because they count as more than just free electives, but you can only earn a maximum of 6 credits with them. You can also only earn 3 credits through NFA. That's 9 credits compared to the maximum of 32 FEMAs TESC accepted. Many people used them to fulfill the 27 credits of free electives. They were also accepted for the area of study for the BS in Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness and AAS in Environmental, Safety and Security Technology programs.

The TEEX and NFA courses are free, but you do have to pay for an ACE transcript. FEMA sent transcripts for free.
