College Math Clep- Is IC overkill, and how many questions are fill in blanks?

BGSU_Alum_86 Wrote:I'm not sure why people are asking about "fill in the blanks" as CLEP only has multiple choice as your options for answers. Yes, there might be a blank in the problem, but you still have one answer from the multiple choice possibilities to choose from. There are no "show your work for credit" problems.
I know for a fact that there are 5-6 "fill in the blanks" on both the College Mathematics and the College Algebra exams.
Example: What is the mean of the following numbers? 65, 82, 91, 62, 54, 18, and 47
____________ (there is literally a blank spot where you type your answer in)

As I said, there's at most 5 or 6 questions that are like this. Also, these are the only exams that I've seen them on.

Publius, that is very interesting as all of the CLEP information states that the answers are multiple-choice. It makes me wonder if those questions might be some of the "pretest" questions. I will have to poke around this topic more and see what I can find...

I'm sure some may be pretest questions, but I doubt that all of them would be for two reasons: 1) That would be extremely obvious, 2) These are the only exams we've seen them on (Not sure about Precalc or Calc).
It is interesting and when I took them (almost a year ago) it caught me off guard. I know that I'm not the only that encounters these, and am surprised that CollegeBoard doesn't mention this.

Just got back from my College Mathematics CLEP test, and while I barely passed with a 50, I have to say that I felt completely unprepared. I prepped using the COMEX book, Khan's videos and Princeton Review "Cracking the CLEP" and I had a difficult time with the test. Many of the questions were of topics I had not seen before.

This wasn't my first CLEP test, so I knew there would some variance to the material, but holy cow - that was a shocker. I'm just glad I passed.

Anybody have any insight on the College Algebra CLEP test?

Thanks.

f you're planning on taking College Algebra just make sure the school will accept it
and that they don't consider it a duplicate of College Math

I took College Math and think I had some “move the numbers around” and “fill in the (number) answer” type Q’s. Those ones you’re describing sound really weird!!

I had the "move the numbers around" and "fill in the (number) answer" as well as blanks. It was surprising to come across those, and yest it was weird. I know I'm not the only who has experienced it either.
One time, while I was taking different test, a guy right next to me (who was quiet the entire time) just blurt out and complained a little. When I looked up, sure enough there was a fill in the blank. I'm also sure other users can testify to it (as jard784 and happy23211 did earlier in this thread).
For whoever out there that may start to be scared off, please keep in mind that this is only a small handful of questions and that 90 some percent of the test is multiple choice.
