I inquired to Excelsior for my son about how many FEMA credits they accept if he went for the BSLS degree she stated that...
if the FEMA credits are all he has, we could accept up to 51 credit hours in the applied professional area at the lower level. Please note he must contact Frederick Community College or Clackamas Community College to have the FEMA credit transcripted.
The only thing I think that she forgot about was the 1 credit Information Literacy course which is lower level, so with that I guess they'd actually accept 50 transcribed FEMA credit... if there are that many any.
Just think,
50 possible Applied Professional/Depth FEMA credits
30 possible Arts and Science/Depth GRE credits
30 Arts and Science Clep credits
9 AP or A&S Dantes UL credit
1 Information Literacy
It would be nice it could work...

What confuses me about this statement is that I've seen many counter that Excelsior will only take a certain number of FEMA credits. The Bachelors in Liberal Studies would be able to absorb 50 FEMA courses ONLY if he has 0 credit hours? I wonder why the distinction between those that have FEMA credits and credits from other institutions? Thanks for sharing! If possible when you get the specific breakdown of applied credits from FEMA would you consider posting the results? I'm sure many (including me) would benefit from trying to make sense of the way Excelsior applies FEMA courses. Thanks again and good luck to your son!

Well, he only has 9 credits so far towards his gen ed. She just indicated that FEMA courses are considered applied professional type of courses. Although I have heard of 1 FEMA course being an arts and science course.
However,
Excelsiors BSLS is split where 60 credits need to be in arts and science with 21 of those credits being upper level. So within those 60 credits would entail the gen ed courses and major courses.
Then the remaining 60 credits could be in arts and science or applied professional type of courses with 9 of those being upper level. Also minus the 1 credit Information Literacy course. These courses could basically be looked at as electives.
Hopefully that explains Excelsior a little better.
