Excelsior and CLEP

Hello,

I had enrolled in a local college six years ago and due to some bad circumstances with my job, failed a biology class.

Now I'm returning to the notion of acquiring a college degree through Excelsior Exams and CLEP.

I understand that some colleges do not allow you to CLEP out of a class that you have previously failed. Does anyone know if that is the case with Excelsior?

I'm really wanting to CLEP Biology.

Excelsior has what's called an academic forgiveness policy. In the first 30 days of enrollment you work out your degree plan. All courses that are not to be included can be requested to be removed from EC's record. Since your failed Bio is no longer on EC's record, it would seem to me you are then free to CLEP the Bio. You should read about this in the catalog and doublecheck with the EC registrar.

I really hope that's the case because I've been studying quite a bit for the CLEP before I found out the policy of some colleges.

You can always study it anyway and feel confident in carrying the knowledge forward. Knowledge is the point to the exercise of education while college credit is the icing on the cake.
