Excelsior NOT Accepting Police Academy Credits
#1
Upon examining my evaluation summary, I noticed that Excelsior DID NOT grant me any credit for the classes I took at the police academy. TESC did however recognize these classes and awarded credit.

This is odd because the academy was through a regionally accredited California Community College.

I asked my Excelsior advisor and she said that credit was not granted because the classes were "certificate" and not degree applicable courses. She said that they confirmed that with the community college.

IMHO that is hogg wash. The college awards an Associates Degree and those classes are a part of the program.

Anyone had a similar experience in their field of expertise??

Whatever, I'll just make up for the 20 units with FEMA credits.

Anyone want to join me in a class on "The role of Bovine Animals and Marsupials in Emergency Response."??

Saddle up boys!!! Yeeeea haw!!

What a load of crap. Really doesn't surprise me though.

My ex-wife had a similar problem when she went through the academy at Gavilan College in Gilroy. The VA folks wouldn't allow her to receive reimbursement through the GI Bill despite the fact that the program met all of the criteria (regionally accredited school, credits count toward a degree, etc). Upon graduation we found out that other officers at the department had received payments without issue. Chasing down the money she was owed became a monumental hassle and we ultimately gave up.

Funny how Excelsior will award elective credit for military courses in criminal justice, but not ones that have taken place in a traditional college setting. Rolleyes
