High School > which of the Big 3? - Not Excelsior

If looking for High School student to enroll in one of the Big Three,
would suggest Thomas Edison (TESC) or Charter Oak (COSC).
Excelsior is firm that cannot enroll unless you are 18 and a high school graduate.
No letters of approval or support will be allowed (even though that what their handbook indicates all is needed).
It has been very frustrating dealing with Excelsior on this.

I believe all three will take you regardless of age if you have graduated HS. Are you asking about dual enrollment? What are you trying to achieve?

I wouldn't choose any of the Big 3 for dual enrollment, I don't believe they have the support structure for it and cost would be very high.

If your local CC is not an option take a look at one of the New Mexico CC like Clovis or New Mexico Junior College. They have dual enrolled programs, welcome out of state students, and are currently about as inexpensive as you will find. Both also support CLEP exams.

Or just set up your own program with CLEP/DSST.

+1 use the big three for a BA degree, use your CC for dual enrollment/AA.

This is good to know because my son was planning on starting when he was 14. We will skip over Excelsor and try TESC. Charter Oak told me he absolutely cannot enroll until he is 16.

One does not have to be admitted to the college to be accumulating credit via DSST/CLEP/ACE. Start him on those at 14, I believe the credits are "good" for 5-7 years and CLEP actually holds the record for 20 years. Even if your kid was 36 I wouldn't recommend he matriculate at any school until he is close to being done with the degree requirements. Very few people here actually take classes with the Big 3 unless it is a requirement.....being enrolled while CLEPing or taking classes elsewhere is just wasting money for no gain.

CLEP & DSST credits are good for 20 years. I was able to use credits from exams I took back in the early 1990s. I'm not sure about ACE credits.

That sounds right. I forget where I read it, but there are some classes that schools require to be within a specific time frame. I know A&P and other science classes sometimes have the requirement. It may not apply to the Big 3 just put it in my original post to point out that credits can sometimes have an expiration date. It's always up to the school what they will accept.
