Does anyone know of a document showing which CLEP, DSST, and ECE exams are considered duplicate with Excelsior?

I hope an updated version of the Student Guide to Credit by Exam will have this info.
In the meantime, do you have any specific concerns? We may be able to help. I do know that the new versions of DSST Intro to Computer and CLEP Info Systems and Computer Applications are considered duplicate now. I was told the Physical Science DSST would duplicate the Chemistry and Natural Science CLEPs that I had already taken. (Biology and Natural Science CLEPs are a good combination.) The two Ethics DSSTs do not duplicate eachother, but I believe there is a note in the Student Guide that one of them duplicates the ECE.

Thank you for you input. I have recieved mixed signals about the Intro to Sociology CLEP and the Social Science and History CLEP.
More importantly, I was looking for the big picture. After talking to three different advisors in a single week, I would be more comfortable with absolutes rather than getting different opinions from different advisors. This would be my only complaint with Excelsior so far. It seems like the application of DSST and CLEP tests toward given degrees could be more transparent. I get the impression there is documentation that they don't make public. Also, does Excelsior accept both the CLEP information systems and the DSST MIS exams? Thanks

I agree with all of your comments.
I am not aware of any duplication issues for any of the test subjects that makeup the content of the Social Science & History CLEP. Many have added SS&H after passing the other exams. Yes, those exams are a good combination, too, and the MIS is upper-level credit.

Can anyone confirm that this is/isn't the case? Should I attempt to appeal? I have a friend's status report from 2008 that allowed both, but maybe their policy has changed. Thanks!

I just enrolled and don't seem to be able to find data on this, the credit by exam document gives scores needed but not corresponding courses they are equal to. Any info would be appreciated.
Don't forget that gaining college credit by taking exams is one of the reason's we're here. That's mainly possible through the flashcards made available by the owner of this forum : InstantCert Plus of course your hard work in learning and reviewing

Another thought:
If the policy has changed, try to find out if it is possible to get 6 credits for the Biology CLEP and 3 credits for the Natural Science CLEP. If that is the case, it would still be worth it to take both exams. (I had a separate issue with Biology-related credits and this is sort of the way the CLEP credits were handled. In other words, they did not consider the non-Biology half of the Natural Science exam to be a part of the duplication issue.)

NAP Wrote:Another thought: Just received confirmation from my advisor that Excelsior's policy has recently changed. The Biology CLEP and Natural Sciences CLEP DO duplicate each other. Seemingly, you would not even get 3 credits for the Natural Sciences CLEP, as implied by this quote from my advisor: "Please do NOT take [the Natural Sciences CLEP], as it duplicates your Biology CLEP, and you would not receive any academic credit for it." Oh well. |
