I was looking at the Biology degree from Excelsior. I noticed that there is a one course upper level biology lab requirement. I'm assuming that organic chemistry will count towards the lab requirement. My question is, does the upper level biology lab, have to be three credits, or can it be one? I didn't see anywhere in the catalog where it stated that the lab had to be three units. I was thinking about doing the following:
Organic Chemistry Lab (1)- U- Mountain State University. $250- That should fulfill the upper level lab economically.
I have already done an organic chemistry course, however, it is at the lower level with no lab. I'm hoping I can just take the lab course from MSU, and fulfill the requirement in that way.

Just my 2 cents, but I would not count a chemistry lab for biology. You are going for a bio degree do you have any lab experience?
I have many chemistry lab credits plus years of experience. I also have several years of biochemistry experience , the lab work is very different and has many different safety issues.

Thanks. The catalog states, that the major requires three lab courses. I don't think they all have to be biology, but I could be wrong. The catalog says:
The biology degree requirements include at least three laboratory courses where one course must be upper level.

It's pretty easy to find upper level bios with labs online. I think there have even been a few threads lately with lists of suggested schools.
My initial thought is that the college may not let you enroll in the lab without the lecture (even though you have had it already) as usually they are co-requisites....you could call and ask because this may all be for nothing.

Thanks for your everyone's input. The upper level biology courses that I saw from UC Berkeley Extension school looked good as well. However, they don't say whether there is a lab component or not. Does anyone know if any of the upper level UC Berkeley courses count towards the requirement?
If not, can someone suggest where to take an economical upper level biology course, that will count towards the requirement?
