I read the Excelsior prospectus. It seems to say that they will credit bank but if you later decide to apply for a degree from them they will not honor those credits. Is this true?

From what I see, they'll use the credits towards the degree, except -
Quote:Duplicative (not repeated) courses are listed on a Credit Bank Transcript but such credits will not apply toward an Excelsior College degree if you decide to enroll.
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Wile E. Coyote, genius. I am not selling anything nor am I working my way through college, so let's get down to basics: you are a rabbit and I am going to eat you for supper. Now don't try to get away, I am more muscular, more cunning, faster and larger than you are, and I am a genius, while you could hardly pass the entrance examinations to kindergarten, so I'll give you the customary two minutes to say your prayers.

I'm curious as to why you would want to spend the money to credit bank if you plan upon pursuing your degree soon. Credit banks are a way for people who are not pursuing a degree to be able to demonstrate to some organization, usually their employer or potential future employer, that they do have college credits despite not having earned a degree. Credit banks work well for people who have credits that aren't on the transcripts of previous colleges, such as credits earned through ACE accreditation, since they are essentially just paying a school to list credits on a transcript.
For most people, though, a credit bank is generally a waste of money. This is especially true for those who plan to pursue a degree, since you have to send in transcripts from all previous colleges when you enroll at a new school, anyway. Even if you were to credit bank at Excelsior, then you would still have to send in transcripts from all previous institutions attended upon enrollment as a degree-seeking student, whether at Excelsior or pretty much anywhere else. |
