It's literally WHY you do a CBE program, because you can get through it faster. If speed isn't your thing, you'd have no reason to attend yourpace. A more "traditional" 16 week term is more for you.

You’re excluding a third option. Some people neither are speedrunners nor are a good fit for the rigid and busy schedules of most standard online courses. Options for this population include CBE methodologies priced per credit or per program like Newlane (NA), Eastern University LifeFlex (RA; based on 7-week terms but each course largely self-paced within its term), self-paced correspondence-style courses, or CBE and alt-credit priced per period while accepting they’ll pay more in total than a speedrunner.

lol this isn't a speedrun, any % on Games Done Quick. The school acknowledges that adults learn and perform at different speeds. This is literally the basis of andragogy (the science of adult learning). Saying that not being fast at the program = no reason to do the program is a crazy take. 

Arguably, traditional lectures (12-15 week courses) are even worse than CBE (I'll die on that hill). There's several research articles that discuss about grade inflation being quite problematic in these settings. You could comfortably (in my opinion) coast your way through a traditional lecture as often times, attendance and homework alone make up a good chunk of your grade, besides the fact that you have to carve out time in your day to make it to class on time compared to CBE where you can literally do it when and where you want, from week 0 to week 7-8, start to finish. Group assignments/projects also bolster grades too (currently back at it again with UIUC) in which case, how do YOU show individual competency.

CBE is a far better format, and in many ways, distance education as a whole feels like a watered down CBE format that is still holding on tightly to traditional lecture values. They all need to take the leap towards CBE. I would be more impressed with someone who completed a CBE program as I would know that all the work was dependent on them performing compared to traditional settings where it's more divided. 

I would say that even still, you would probably save more money (even if it took several semesters at UMPI) compared to traditional schools. Good luck with the priced credit hours. 1 or 2 courses at many schools (for example, COSC) costs more than a semester at UMPI. Even if you did 1 or 2 classes a semester at UMPI, you're still doing just fine. Traditional schools are like a conveyor belt. By that math, a "traditional 16 week term" would net you with equal or less credits and cost you more compared to a student who did YourPace at UMPI.

I've done my fair share at UMPI with 5 degrees already from there (4 if you don't consider the associates as a freebie). I don't know any student who has done more than me there on top of being actively involved in many things at the school. But that was because I'm always reading things: instruction manuals, research articles, wiki pages, History Channel, business reviews, and more things all the time in my spare time plus a lot of my time is spent at the computer and there are moments when things aren't happening at work and I can work on it, come home and work at it again, and stay up all night and work on it some more. But then again, I have INSANE drive and motivation to complete things that I hope no other person would do. So I come with a lot of knowledge. I'm also a writer too, so writing happens to be my forte. 

I may know a thing or two about UMPI, and one of them is that CBE is for everyone. Case closed.

I still check out that little time capsule of a website every now then. It's fascinating to see just how relevant and equally dated it is. But seriously, the method has remained the same mostly, the only difference is where we get our credits from.
