AIMS $40 for 8 Grad Credits

Quote:I'm considering APUS for an ACBSP RA MBA and since they accept NA/DETC transfer credit, new.edu may help me cut down my total costs. Then again for their MBA they may not accept NA transfer credit, but it's worth looking into.

Definitely check before enrolling. I thought I read (not positive) that under APUS's new ACBSP policy any Graduate business incoming transfer credits need to come from an AACSB or ACBSP program.

Geezer Wrote:Kyle there was talk that New may go to a competency based system like WGU. This may be because a former WGU exec is now on staff or it could be pure speculation. As part of your due diligence I would find out if the format is likely to change in the time you plan on completing your degree. If you can get in, complete the degree and get out, then it makes sense. If they do change formats to something less desirable, you'll want to make sure that anything you have taken up until that point could be transferred to another program like AMU/APU.
Thank you for the help, I'll look into that. Would you mind telling me exactly what is wrong with a competency based system?

I'm not sure that you can transfer credit out of a competency system. All of this is moot , if NEW lets you begin and finish in your timeline under the current tuition format. You have the drive, the focus and the smarts...the only thing out of your control is whether NEW decides to change the format.

They bought AJU which wasn't surprising in the sense that AJU's previous owner's plan was to buy, build it, and sell it. The question is whether the NEW owners plan on changing the format. I don't know, but if I were thinking of attending I'd really press the people at NEW with the following types of questions.

Are there any plans to change any aspect of the MPA program? Are there any plans to change any aspect of the tuition format for Graduate Students? If I sign up under the current tuition format am I guaranteed the same course format and tuition rate as long as I am enrolled at NEW?

Kyle at the end of the day this is basically a NEW business model with a NEW vision and you need to make sure there are no surprises.

Master of Business Administration

This page doesn't say anything about transfer credit but it stipulates that your undergrad business degree must be from an ACBSP or AACSB school to waive the 3 foundation courses. This is new for them because they just recently were given ACBSP accreditation.

I'm going back and forth with one of them right now and she's saying they do plan on changing to competency based exams but will continue to offer regular courses as well. Is that ok?

You might want to reconsider.

I'm not sure "credits" is still the right word, here. AIMS (US) site does not even mention degrees these days and the Taft-AIMS ship sailed a long time ago. From the site, AIMS appears to offer certificates and diplomas only, in many, many areas for $350-$500 apiece. No degree credit at any mainstream-accredited school I know of. The now-expired TAFT-AIMS deal seems incongruous. Why? Taft is a quite decent DEAC-accredited school with a couple of Master's programs; AIMS hasn't offered degrees in a long time - at least in the U.S. Its Hawaii campus did at one time - all the way up to Doctorates. That campus was court-ordered into closure in 2002. There have been foreign AIMS campuses, notably in Malaysia; I'm not sure if any survive nowadays.

I'm not helping this school with its Google ranking, so here's the (slightly encoded) site: us-dash-aims-dot com.

It is "accredited" by two agencies unrecognized by CHEA or USDoE: "The International Association of Online Distance Education" and the "International Accreditation Organization." The latter org. appears here - on a Fake Accreditors list compiled by GetEducated.com List of Fake College Degree Accreditation Agencies | GetEducated

AIMS has been linked in the press with Axact, the Pakistan-originated worldwide fake degree scam. Here are sample Axact-related articles that mention AIMS:

Axact scandal: FIA recovers several lakh fake degrees, 8 printing machines | Pakistan | Dunya News (Note: "several lakh" = several hundred thousand! J.)
http://www.thefrontierpost.com/article/3...nsibility/

Nope - bad, bad optics for this school.

OR NOT!

My adverse comments referred to AIMS - American Institute of Management Studies - and still do. It appears the completely unrelated AIMS - American Institute of Management Sciences was offering the inexpensive credits toward the Taft degree.

"AIMS - Management Studies" is on the Unrecognized Schools list in Allen Ezell's and John Bear's "Degree Mills - The Billion-Dollar Industry That Has Sold Over a Million Fake Diplomas."
"AIMS - Management Sciences" which offered the credits for use at Taft U. is NOT on anybody's unrecognized list...and I'm sure it never will be.

My apologies for the name mix-up. You can see how easy it was... Sad

I found a Linked-In page on AIMS - American Institute of Management Sciences / AIMS Research Foundation. https://www.linkedin.com/company/aims-re...foundation. The website, Masteraims.org is gone now, but the affiliated AIMS Research Co. is now Daxeon Corp, here: Home

The founder of the "good" AIMS (and CEO/CTO of Daxeon Corp. ) is Dr. David Lady, who has done much great service in the field of Distance education. He founded William Loveland College (DEAC-accredited ) in Colorado, where he is still Provost and Executive Director. Prior to this, he founded AIMS and is a past CEO/CIO of Aspen University (DEAC).

I don't think Daxeon Corp. is in the course-providing business, but William Loveland College certainly is. I believe it offers the lowest-cost accredited MBA in the USA. It's at Home

Again, my apologies for the late untangling. Two completely unrelated, almost identical names. One very good. One not.
