Although I have not done either of these-did A &I Lit instead, I would think it would depend on how much Brit Lit you've had in school at some point (since most schools do both Brit Lit and American Lit) or like/have read.

Personally I had Brit Lit and not much American Lit at all (schooled overseas) so find Brit Lit more comfortable.

Depends on what you've read in the past.

I like older stuff and Shakespeare and that kind of thing, so found English Lit much easier. The trouble with American Lit is that a lot of American Lit tends to be more modern stuff, which means it's totally vague and nebulous and it's anyone's guess exactly what "deep thing" someone is really trying to say when in an inane statement like "so much depends on a red wheelbarrow dripping rainwater by the stinkin' white chickens" or however that thing goes. Rolleyes Rolleyes hilarious

Bottom line, I found English Lit. a little bit more.........sensible, I guess, and easier to interpret.

I haven't taken either test, but if Am Lit concentrates on the modern stuff (e.g., 1960-forward), then you will be knee-deep in BS, that's for sure. I couldn't have phrased it better!
