so the Uxcel - is it a single test like CLEP/DSST and the EC is taking an actual class online?

Yes, UExcel is a single exam, they have a lot of them, many are UL courses.

EC usually refers to the college itself, rather than an online course.

One thing to note - unlike CLEPs/DSSTs, UExcels are letter graded exams.
