Hello all,
I am wondering what courses offered through Thomas Edison are the easiest. I am not trying to take the 'easy' way out but honestly, I am at the point where I just want the degree.
I am looking to receive the Bachelors in Natural Science and Math.
I have well over 200 total college credits through the Air Force, Traditional College, Cleps, Dantes, and FEMA courses (those I doubt I will need). I have done an unoffical transfer feedback and was told I would need to take the minimum amount of courses.
So I am thinking, once I register I will be told that I can almost take any course I want to fill those minimum requirements.
Does anyone know the easier courses through Thomas Edison that I can take so I can finally finish my degree?
Thank you all again for your time and help.

The Nat Science / Math BA currently requires 18 UL and at least 12 but no more than 18 credits in any one subject area within the degree. That said I hope you only need a handful of credits.
The Global Environmental Change course is 6 UL credits. While others have said it is an easy course, my son got a B-, mainly because he just was not that interested in the course, and partly because his instructor was a bit odd. She was all over students to get assignments in on time, then she took forever to grade or respond to students. Final grades were delayed a month because she had personal issues that she had to deal with, which is not a problem if you either cut the students the same slack, or practice what you preach and handle your own responsibilities on time. Some students might have had to delay their garduation a couple months becuase this instructor couldn't suck it up enough to grade a half dozen exams. Rant done

Geezer,
Thank you very much for your reply. I'm sure I am fairly close to having the 18 UL courses complete due to the Dante tests I have taken. Also, thank you for the tip, and advice on the Global Environmental Change course.

Hummmm...you picked a hard degree to earn for wanting easy classes. I'm in science mode now- working through my nursing prereqs. 8 credits of general biology with lab, 8 credits of anatomy/physiology with lab, 4 credits of chemistry with lab, 8 credits of organic chemistry with lab, and 4 credits of physics with lab. That's beyond the 6 bio credits I had before...but none of that counts as upper level in major. What on earth does TESC expect for those credits? You need 18 upper levels!? And, I can't even wrap my brain around what would be higher than organic chemistry. (ouch) I think Global Environmental Change is 300 level for 6 credits- Linda just took that one I think.
I know you can use maths, but even calculus 2 is lower level....I have nothing for you

Well, I am using wishful thinking here....a while ago before I had a few not many but a few of the credits I have I emailed a gentleman at Thomas Edison, he said he could do an unoffical evaluation of my credits. From there he said that Thomas Edison required that you take atleast 18 credits through them no matter what, from what I took out of it, I needed 7 classes to earn the degree. One of those was Math which I completed through CLEP. So that would leave the 18 credits, by Military background covers most of the Natural Science and Math portion, therefore I think I will just need to take 6 classes through them.
What I mean is, I pretty much think I could have the degree now covered but since I have to take 6 classes through them, I will have to pick any 6 to complete their requirements. I am terrible at explaining what I am thinking, but I think as long as I take 6 classes, which could be electives ect I will earn the degree. Follow me?

OK, let me take a stab...Are you on the Military Degree Completion Program which means that instead of normal enrollment, you just need to earn 18 credits through TESC to qualify for degree completion? Thomas Edison State College/ Military Degree Completion Program
The reason Cook and I are concerned is that the criteria for the BA Natural Science /Math has changed in the last year. You now need 18 UL credits within Nat Scienc /Math. DSST UL in other areas do not apply. If you already have UL credit in Nat Science / Math that will apply, then that is great, if not then you will need to meet the new criteria. Global Environmental Change will get you 6 UL credits, GER 412 Biological Aspects of Aging will get you 3, there are also three Computer Science courses that would apply. I would also ask (although I doubt) if the DSST MIS UL exam might apply.
Whatever you do, before you make your next move, please verify everything in writing from TESC.

The requirements have changed in the last year. I had my evaluation done and I have been enrolled over a year so I still qualify under the old rules which say:
Complete 33 semester hours in the Natural Sciences/
> Mathematics Concentration. At least three different
> departments/subjects must be included which provide
> for breadth of knowledge in Natural Sciences/Math areas.
> A student must earn at least 12 semester hours in ONE
> subject. A maximum of 18 semester hours can be earned in
> ONE subject area in order to have a balanced inter-
> disciplinary concentration. Courses transferred to Thomas
> Edison State College are equated to the following levels:
> "100", "200"' "300", or "400". A maximum of TWO college-
> level courses equated to the "100" level can be applied
> toward the area of concentration.
.
The new rules state
1.Students complete 33 credits in the natural sciences/mathematics concentration.
2.At least three different subjects must be included, which provides for breadth of knowledge in the natural sciences/mathematics. Also, students must earn at least 12 credits in one subject area. A maximum of 18 credits can be earned in any one subject area in order to have a balanced interdisciplinary concentration.
3.Courses transferred to Thomas Edison State College are equated to the following levels: 100, 200, 300 or 400. A maximum of two college-level courses equating to the 100 level can be applied toward the area of concentration. A minimum of 18 credits equating to 300 or 400 Thomas Edison State College courses are required.
4.LIB-495 Liberal Arts Capstone strongly recommended
I did just take Global Environmental Change, I took it with Diane Trainor as an On-line class. I worked very hard and put in lots of hours, but it was 6 UL credits.
I have heard it is easier to take it with Earnshaw.
Are you sure you need 18 TESC credits or is it just 18 TESC UL equated credits?
As far as I know TESC does not have a residency requirement. I have taken a total of 9 TESC graded (class) credits and 6 ungraded TECEP credits.

Glad you made it through!!!!
Shadow- I hope you'll share what you find out. This was the one degree plan that I thought TESC really messed up on when they rewrote the plan. I'd like to see how it's done by someone here.

Just a thought but you may not need to take ANY classes, even on the Military Degree Completion program.
I am shooting for the AAS in Applied Electronics through TESC, specifically the rating roadmap setup for Navy Electronics Technicians. All of my Military credits count leaving only the general education requirements to be fulfilled. I have taken CLEPs and DSSTs to knock those out and I should be done, just waiting for the results of my Freshman comp w/ essay.
Anyway there is a 9 credit residency requirement to take advantage of the program...but not really. TESC does not have a residency requirement so basically the "residency requirement" you were told about qualifies you for the tuition discount so that TA will cover the degree 100%. The TESC rep said I can still obtain my AAS according to the degree plan, even without meeting the residency requirement, but I have to pay for everything on my own. I have to pay the enrollment fee and first years tuition. At that point instead of registering for classes I will simply apply for graduation and pay the graduation fee, receive my degree and move on with life. When it's all said and done it will cost about $1,800.
It would be nice to have TA pay for the tuition (I would still have to pay for enrollment and graduation: about $330) but honestly I hate taking classes and would rather pay the money (thank you desert deployment).
Hope this helps.
