EC waives enrollment fee for School of Health Sciences
#1
While trying to figure out the best way to transfer in my nursing credits without having to do a BSN, I found this out.

School of Health Sciences

Enrollment Fee for the School of Health Sciences Waived

The enrollment fee ($895) for the School of Health Sciences is waived* through December 31, 2009.

This is a limited time offer so apply now. No special code is needed to take advantage of this saving.

I was in the EC nursing program and dropped when I decided not to finish because of a change in my career path. I had taken all but one nursing exam, the CPNE and a few pre-reqs. I enrolled in the BSHS at no cost and I was able to use all my nursing courses as health science electives. It is a good way to use the credits and not lose them. I now have 2 ECE's, 4 classes and a couple of electives to finish my degree. I should be done by 5/10 if all goes well. I only enrolled 4/09 so one year to completion isn't too bad. I'm doing my BSLS in the meantime which I should finish next month. It will only cost me $80 to transfer to LA then as long as I graduate and come back to HS by 12/31/09 I will again enroll free of charge due to the fee waiver. Not a bad deal! Good luck!

I have an AAS in Nursing from a brick and mortar nursing school already and I dont think all of my nursing credits will transfer in. I dont want to lose anything if I can. I enrolled in Empire State college as they allow you to come up with any degree program you want as long as you can prove it has some validity. I created a Nursing Informatics program where I can bring all my nursing credits and this is the field I am pursuing, so I need to learn more about it the old fashioned way. The EC Health Science degree may be an option depending on how many nursing credits I can bring in as electives and take as few online classes as possible! Empire has a 32 credit residency requirement, but I need some IT classes anyway to function professionally.

Hey! Just to let you know EC is very generous in accepting transfer credits and they don't have any residency requirement. I didn't lose any HSE, in fact I had too many! They also have a Healthcare Informatics graduate certificate that might interest you. If you haven't seen it you may want to check it out. I'm planning on taking it as soon as I finish my BSLS and will take it in conjunction with finishing my BSHS. EC is also working on an MBA bridge with the Healthcare Management degree. It is supposed to be up and running in the next year. Just some info to think about. Good luck with your decision. I know it is hard. Just make sure whatever you choose it is regionally accredited so if you decide to pursue anything further down the road you won't be stuck with an invalid degree for transfer.

Thanks!!! I decided to pay the $75, and see what happens! I figure since I don't have to pay for enrollment, I can figure it all out later. The post graduate study is interesting. I need to get on the ball and start CLEPing some classes. Gonna take DSST HTYH and Sustance Abuse next week to start. WIll follow with the Computer classes after that. Have you been able to replace any of the core classes with anything? Just curious, want to take as few classes as possible.

Hi!

They do allow 1 core and 1 managament concentration class to be tested out using 2 of their exams. I will working on those in the next few months. You can test out of Research methods in Psych and the HR course. The rest you need to take as courses. I did get approval to take them locally at local Univ but the Univ wanted me to take a bunch of garbage classes like a swimming class before I could take the core classes, they also only allowed entry once a year, so EC was just faster. I have already taken the two 8 wk courses - Cultural diversity in healthcare and Intro to the healthcare system. I'm currently in Writing and communication in healthcare. They do spread out the courses which ensures you will have to pay a student service fee to finish up, unless you have a ton of time and can overlap the courses taking basically 4 classes at a time. I can't do that because they are very writing intensive. With kids, a full time teaching job and a part time teaching job I just don't have that much time. I'm also doing DSST exams along the way.

You can use some CLEP / DSST exams to fulfill the Gen Ed and health science electives. DSST also has some UL exams. I like the DSST exams because they give you letter grades whichs helps the GPA instead of just pass/fail. You can see the exams I have taken to date in my signature line. Please let me know if you have any questions. I will do my best to help answer them or direct you to the right person. You can also PM me if you want.

Good luck! Let me know how your eval goes.
