Does anyone know if you have to wait until your unofficial eval is done before you can enroll (starting the official eval process) at EC?
Thanks

I am not selling anything nor am I working my way through college, so let's get down to basics: you are a rabbit and I am going to eat you for supper. Now don't try to get away, I am more muscular, more cunning, faster and larger than you are, and I am a genius, while you could hardly pass the entrance examinations to kindergarten, so I'll give you the customary two minutes to say your prayers.

Frankly, the unofficial eval was not worth much anyway. Go ahead and pay and get in line to get the full assessment and then you can get advice from the counselors right after you have that.
Also, being older, I paid to get at least the AS in my hands as quickly as possible but check other posts as there has been a lot of discussion on how some people here wished they had just registered for the BS and kept working toward that. Otherwise you pay the $895 (?) to get registered, then $495 to graduate. Then you have to re-enroll for another $895 for the BS and a second set of graduation fees, and if it takes longer than a year you only pay the annual fee to roll over which is, if I remember correctly, about the same as the graduation fee.
I'm not exactly sure of the fees, as I'm just answering this without verifying.
Check their site for all of their fees and plan ahead if your ultimate goal is the BS -- you will have more money for testing fees and/or courses.

Well, I did get an email back from them this afternoon on this. (And I will say that Emily and Patti in the admissions office have been incredibly helpful to me.)
Apparently you do have to wait until the unofficial eval, which is considered part of the actual application process, is done before you can actually enroll at EC. While I can see the reasoning for that, somewhat, I was hoping to get applied and enrolled so I could start my Research and Writing In Social Sciences class in January to get it out of the way. Guess I'll have to wait until March.. Actually, seeing that the end product of the 8 week class is an 8 page research paper, I might just wait until May, so it doesn't interfere with my GRE Subject study that much... Hurm.

Thanks for the info. I will be applying soon, too.

You can start the class now, if you want to. It just has a higher tuition cost (around $20/credit - the last I looked) for being an unenrolled student. Right? (I'm thinking about doing Info Lit before I enroll. I realize Penn Foster would be a less expensive option for this, but I would like to have one Excelsior credit on my transcript.)

I'm doing things currently on somewhat of a shoe-string budget (especially after the holidays, and Santa and all that) and since this is a non-work related degree, my job isn't giving me any tuition reimbursement.
The $70 extra that I'd spend on the class ($20 for non-enrolled & $50 because I joined POAG, so I get a break on the enrolled cost) might have to go towards an extra Soc Sci/History test for me.
Such is life.. I'm fine with getting it done starting in May... As long as all my t's are dotted and my i's are crossed by Sept so I can get conferral as soon as they offer it in the fall, I'm a happy camper.

I did notice while browsing the catalog that I can take the MLS 500 Graduate Research and Writing in lieu of the Research & Writing course.. I'll have to look into the cost difference on this, but it would be nice to have a leg up, because I'm planning on hitting grad school for a masters asap after finishing this degree up.

I can understand trying to save money through this process. A person could use that same $20 for a month of ALEKS credits!
Since reading your signature about ALEKS, I have been meaning to ask:
Do you have any interest (and lots of extra time) in trying ALEKS Chemistry and then taking the Chemistry CLEP (or just the practice tests)? It would be nice to find a guinea pig and a streamlined path (I used 4 books) to passing this CLEP. My concern is that ALEKS may be more problem-oriented than the CLEP test was. Anyway, it would be nice to know someday, if this is a good option.
(About grad credit, I think it would be nice to get early, too.)

I had initially considered doing that with ALEKS Chem and taking the CLEP Chem test, actually. Then I found out that I had 45 college credits that I thought were a wash due to their age, and reworked my roadmap (several times actually, the wife is getting sick of me spending all my time with my nose in spreadsheets, and having to listen to me talk about the various possibilities and paths I can take. )
I did a little more research on the Grad level class and its 3 credits at $425 a credit... Ouch, compared to $90 for the Info Lit through PF, but I'm still considering doing that and taking another 3 credit class to qualify for a Federal Student Loan, but I want to get more information on how everything looks, which won't be til I enroll in Feb, unless they take more than 4-6 weeks on my initial eval. Just in case, I'm getting all my transcripts sent out to them now, so they should all be there (or are close to being there) when I apply on the 8th.

I was wondering how long the application process takes. Did they actually tell you it would be 4-6 weeks?

For me the application process was 6 weeks...and that's taking into account having my unofficial evaluation done and being in Australia
