Okay I don't know how the graded thing works for Peterson's DSSTs. I don't know what a passing score would be or what the max is. I took the Intro to Computing Practice Test cold to see what I would get and got a 51. Is that good or bad or just passing? I thought they were graded like 415 or something like that. Help would be appreciated!

Hi Nick,
No such thing as a dumb question! I looked at the COSC test list and the DSST Intro to Computing is a 400 passing score. I think the scores correlate about the same. I took the CLEP version myself

a 51 is very respectable for *cold.* I would have some concern that the practice test contains information from an older version but I didn't even know they had Peterson's for DSST exams. Sounds like you are well on your way to a pass!

Thanks for the info! Any good study materials for DSSTs? I've heard that the REA books aren't the best...

Well, there's this really cool site called InstantCert...
Go to the DSST website and download the individual exam fact sheets (free). Each will have a brief test sample, an outline of the material covered, and a list of suggested study resources. For each of the three DSSTs I've taken so far, I've used one recommended text plus IC and web/Wiki searches on some terms and concepts. Make sure you're familiar with every topic on the fact sheet!

There are some DSST-specific study guides out there, but you'll probably need to hunt them down on Amazon. They're not very common.

Most of the REA books are for CLEPS, and they are excellent. They help break up the monotony of doing all of your tests using IC. They go quicker if you mix and match learning techniques. I like them because you can read them on the train, at breakfast, etc. Both techniques work best with a dose of information from the Exam Specific Forums up here.
Also, 51 is a passing grade, but I would aim for something much higher. If you aim higher and get a 51, fine, but a little more work would be good.
EC - BSLS Finally done!
Went from 86 to 120 credits in six weeks thanks to IC and the forum.
Currently doing MBA pre-reqs.
Now BSLS + 9 credits

Be careful Nick! When I tried Peterson's (free version) for CLEP, it just said the number right and the percentage right. That is not the same as an estimate for a scaled score.
How many questions were on the practice test?

I talked to the DANTES rep on the phone the test is anywhere from 80-115 questions for this exam.
The passing score is 400 (grade of C) but the questions are awarded different point values and they have a way to figure out if you passed. So it is not how many questions you got right but which ones did you get wrong/right.
I scored a 69 on the peterson. I don't know if that will be enought to get me to pass. I studied all the question on InstantCert (both the DANTES and the CLEP) and I am studying the peterson.
