Dual Degree
#1
I read somewhere that TESU does not let you get more than one degree. I just wanted to check that info. I am actually interested in TESU Human Resources/Organizational Management, Marketing and Operations. They do not have a lot in common classes wise but I am thinking I can use the required classes for the electives. I think the only issue is Marketing courses mostly have to be taken at TESU (cant test out), is that a fair assessment?

Also, I am trying to make a spreadsheet of classes to save most money.... I have no credits at all.

Also, is it cheaper to just take classes at TESU for residency if I take Makreting than pay $1,600? I cannot find an answer in the post so excuse me if I am repeating.

Hi Cory!

You can do two areas of concentration within the BSBA and then complete certificates in other areas. For example, I am doing a BSBA in accounting and CIS as well as certificates in finance, marketing, operations management and organizational leadership. I am not sure about the marketing AOS, but the marketing certificate can be completed with test-out options.

No, you do not have to take Marketing courses at TESU. You would take at least 2 of their exams, which are only $117.

You can test out of General Management or Operations Management and some others.

However, I don't think the HR concentration can be tested out of. You would want to avoid TESU courses to save money.

Thanks for the reply.

When you say two concentrations you mean that HR and Marketing can be taken together, right? I live in Florida and the accounting program you have to take so many more credits. like 30 credits. Will it still work and if it does can those 30credits be used as the credits for another major? (I may be able to answer that by looking in the forum, never thought of it)

Wow. How are you getting all those certificates? That can be done all at one time?

Which two courses are $117. I was looking at Sanantone's BSBA in Marketing post-July 1, 2015 and thats where I read most were TECEP classes and I assumed that meant only taken at TE.

I am interested in Operations, Is there another program you would suggest to tag team that? I am just looking to maximize credits with degrees if I can while saving money....

Teceps are cheap. $117. So, yeah, you need to take a Tecep or two. The certificates are essentially another area of study. You can test out of them if you are an enrolled student otherwise you have to take 50% classes at TESU.

The TECEPs are all $117 each and they are 3 credits. TECEPs are taken at TESU, but they are test-out exams, not courses.

Well you can choose 2. You could Operations Management and Marketing.

TESU will let you get two bachelor's degrees, but the second one has to be earned after the first. However, you can have to areas of study within the same type of degree, and it's counted as one degree. You can have two concentrations within the same type of degree. For example, you can have two concentrations within a BSBA or two AOSs within a liberal arts, BA program. And, as Eriehiker said, there are multiple certificates in business if two concentrations aren't enough for you.

There are enough alternative sources of credit for you to do marketing and human resources.

So If I wanted to get HR, I can still use my tests to get the MRKT degree? I just cant do it at the same time, I have to come back and return in the test scores? Huh

You can do two areas of study/concentrations at the same time as long as it's within the same type of degree. HR and marketing are AOSs in the BSBA program. You would have two AOSs for one degree. You wouldn't be doing two degrees. This is the equivalent of having a double major.

Quote:Two Areas of Study Within One Degree

Similar to declaring a double major, you are able to pursue a second area of study within your degree program. For example, you can complete a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Bachelor of Arts in English – you would only need to complete the Area of Study requirements as outlined in the program’s credit distribution guide – because your general education requirements would remain the same (as opposed to pursuing a second degree, where you would need to fulfill another set of general education requirements). No more than 9 credits that are used in the first area of study may be used for the second area of study. All related required credits for each area of study, as well as all degree requirements, must be met at the same time. To pursue this, all you have to do is contact your academic advisor, and it will be added to your degree plan.

You do the GenEd requirements, and the Business core requirements, and then you do 6 courses for Marketing/HR and 6 courses for HR/Operations, or whichever concentrations you choose. You can only pick 2, but if you want to do more, you can do at least one undergrad certificate (in Marketing, for example).
