Help!!! (Humanities CLEP)
#1
I started studying for this exam about a week ago. I copied and pasted all of the questions (not the pictures) into a word document and made myself flashcards. I have studied those and would say that I am rock solid on about 90% at this point. I havel also started looking over Lulu's study guide.

My panic/concern: I hear this test has a lot to do with the time frame people did things which isn't really covered in the info I am finding on instacert. Or how to group people together. Any thoughts? This will be my first CLEP exam. I'm not crazy about taking this one, but it is required to fulfill a Fine Arts credit I need. Failing is really not an option. I am taking it as a CLEP rather than the course because I need to line up my student teaching and this is the only way to do it. So, I feel a little more pressure about this exam than I normally would. Any help or advice would be GREATLY appreciated.

We've always got thoughts! Big Grin

Humanities was a fun test. Yes, you do need to be able to identify artists/works of art based on time period, but I don't remember running across many of the grouping questions except in one of the Peterson's tests I took. Still, you should be able to identify artists based on period. An excellent way to do this is to look up artists you've never heard of before studying for this exam on Wikipedia. I find that self-initiated research helps the info to stick in your head better.

Also: if you have an Art History book, it is helpful to leaf through that (or again, Wikipedia works) to find the characteristics of various movements. Orphism, Romanticism, Neo-Classicalism, Fauvism, Aestheticism, Pointillism, and many others should make their way into your knowledge banks.

Have fun with this one; I know I did! If you're solid on 95-100% of IC's materials, passing shouldn't be a problem, though scoring over 65 might be. Prior knowledge and self-initiated research are a boon on this one. And practice tests, don't forget those.

But I'm rambling. Good luck, Adam,
R.

That's what Humanities is. The REA book alone would probably be enough to pass. If you already have the IC cards down pat, a skim of the REA book might be all you need to get time periods and such cemented in your brain.

Good luck!

I relied mostly on InstantCert for this exam and did fine. I found REA to be way more detailed than the exam. That book made my eyes glaze over...

Everyone's different, but with a 90% accuracy on IC cards, I would say you're good to go on this exam. Smile

I agree with BKBarden. You'll be fine. I went and took the test after forgetting most of what I studied for waiting too long. I passed with a 50 but I just took it to get it out of the way.
