Does anyone accept the "Major Field Tests" like the GREs?
#1
ETS makes "Major Field Tests" in addition to GREs. Some overlap in subjects. I'm not sure of the differences in the tests, but I am very interested in the possibilities if these are accepted a la the old GRE subject exams anywhere.

I'm guessing not, but thought I'd check.

I'm guessing not as well. The MFTs seem to be geared towards institutions not students, in that the voice in the "about" sounds like it's talking to the schools only. It reads like the MFTs are a tool for schools to evaluate their own students , compare them to national averages, then use that as an advertising angle like they already do with average class size, average SAT score of entering freshmen, etc. At any rate, I've NEVER heard anyone on this forum or any other I've read talking about them. That makes me think they are rare at best and probably not that useful. I read through the institutions administering the math MFT. There isn't even one in the entire state of NJ! And this is where ETS is located  ! Besides, Excelsior stopped granting credit for the subject GREs and they always had a better deal with that than COSC or Empire did, so I'd say that avenue of credit accumulation has already seen its best days.

No idea. I came across them when I read about a former GRE Poli-Sci test. I always wanted to learn more "officially" about poli-sci for my own sake, so I googled it looking for an old study guide to consider buying. First hit was a link to the ETS site discussing these things.

I figured there wasn't much chance, oh well. A 2nd degree in poli-sci would have been nice, wish I'd known about this stuff ten years ago. Sad
