Discrete math is one of the requirements for a CS degree, listed under part A of the area of study. It is not an elective. Math 108 or an equivalent course from a RA institution needs to be transferred in to complete the degree.

I think it will satisfy either of those requirements. Just not for the CS degree. Not sure why you'd bother since Algebra is easier and Algebra from Sophia is WAY cheaper.

Would TESU count these as separate courses and grant credit for each? Or would they argue that there is too much overlap and only one of them can be counted?

Sophia's Algebra comes to TESU as MAT-121. ALEKS precalculus comes to TESU as MAT-129. You would get credit for both.

So I spoke to TESU advising today. Though I am kind of skeptical in their advice, I was informed discrete math would work as a CS elective for the ASNSM. Considering the degree doesn't require additional elective courses, I am hoping he understood the manner I intended to apply it. Here are some excerpts from the description:
"Discrete Mathematics is designed to meet the needs not only of students majoring in computer science..." "...particular focus of the course is on reasoning related to computer programs..." https://www2.tesu.edu/course.php?CourseCode=MAT-270 I also am applying algebra, pre-calc CLEP, calc CLEP, stats, college math CLEP, and linear algebra to an AS in Math. Also the additional math courses are needed as background for potential graduate programs I hope to attend. |
