Going for American Lit and English Lit after A&I Lit. Good idea?
#1
I'm personally going for a business administration degree which wouldn't necessarily require me to take the American or English Lit CLEPs but I figured it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to just go ahead and do them while all this "studying" for the A&I CLEP is fresh in my mind. Both American and English Lit are 6 credits at my local cc while the A&I is only worth 3. The A&I exam will be my first exam and I plan on taking it before Memorial Day and the other 2 before the end of June. What do you guys think?

I was able to do Am. Lit & Eng. Lit right after A&I Lit because I'd just finished up high school courses on them. If you have background on the subjects it'll be easy, but if you don't, not so much. Still doable, though.

Unfortunately, this will be my first time with any english class type of experience in 15 years. Most of my experience in high school consisted of using a book for a pillow and I somehow ended up with C's.

Anyway, the stuff seems to be coming back to me and based of what I've been reading, the 2 subjects really aren't that bad.

Yes, if you're in the literature frame of mind. Remember, that these two exams are content-based questions, so you'll need to know about the works and authors in detail. Good luck!

Yes, like Cook said, there's lots of memorizing, and also some reading & analyzing. The Specific Exam feedback section contains lots of info on what to study.

You'll definitely need A&I Lit skills on those other two tests, but keep in mind that they're only 40-50% analyzing (asking what a passage is about). You'll have a lot more questions asking, WHO WROTE this passage, or as posted above, facts about the authors and identifying what they wrote. There are some great study tools and resources out there; it's definitely doable, but you'll need to put the study in to familiarize yourself with authors, works, and time periods and not rely solely on A&I.
