Degree Planning Help Please
#1
Greeting all! I've only been reading the forums for around 2 weeks now and need some help.

I'm currently active duty Army and trying my best to complete my degree before getting out in October 2017. I'm currently deployed in Africa and will be here until around January 2017. I will be finishing my A.A. Supply Chain Management from Coastline in the August.

For the fall, I've been considering Park University's BSBA-Logistics, but they only allow you to take 12 hours per semester(6 hrs every 8 wk term)- which I feel may slow me down. The positives are no Cap/Cornerstone, accept up to 90 credits from one source, no proctored exams so I could start in the fall and the admission counselor told me they should accept ALEKS credit. I'm kind of thinking it still isn't the best plan seeing as how TESU can be almost totally tested out of.

Since finding this forum, I have started thinking the BSBA- Operations Management from TESU is a better option. I think it will be quicker for me, but I worry about not being able to start there until January since exams are proctored. (I don't have reliable enough internet, can't plan ahead enough to schedule exams and don't have the privacy to be able to proctor exams from out here.)

Can anyone help me come up with a strategy to finish in time at TESU? Once I'm back I can take DSST/ CLEP/ Proctored classes. I've listed my current credit below. Any suggestions/inputs are welcome. Many thanks!

Hello, Welcome to the board...
From the info you provided, if all of those courses are evaluated and provided credit, you should only need about 15 or so courses to fulfill a degree.
You may want to apply to TESU and get an evaluation completed once the in progress courses are completed, they'll let you know where you stand.

Further to this, you may want to view this guide: http://www.degreeforum.net/general-educa...llege.html
I just updated it yesterday to include CLEP/DSST equivalency info, you can get the spreadsheet started and start plugging in your details.
This can be used as your progress tracker and also to remind you what courses are still required.

Note: I've created a wikia page for that as well here: http://degreeforum.wikia.com/wiki/The_Basic_Approach

I can only help if you want a BSBA in Ops Management from TESU, since I know nothing about the other school. I'm including a spreadsheet to help you figure out what you still need to take.

In my opinion, you should continue taking courses where you are if possible, since it's working for you. If you could continue on with courses at Coastline, you could probably finish up most of what you need for your degree at TESU. Anything I have listed in the Gen Ed area, plus anything in the Professional Business (Core) requirements would be a good thing to do before you get back.

I'm not sure how CSU-Pueblo Independent Study does with proctoring, but they offer one of the required courses in Ops Management (Total Quality Management), and it might be a good time to take it if you can swing it.

The only things I'm not sure of is what they will classify your JST courses as; and if Human Relations in business will count as the Business in Society/International Business requirement. Assuming they do it the same as your college did, they aren't a lot of help (unless TESU would consider any of the JST courses UL, which would be fantastic - but I'm not sure if they will).

I would also not take any additional Ops Management courses if you don't need them, as you can only use 2 lower-level courses in the area of study, and you already have 3. All CC courses count as Lower Level, so you're kind of stuck there.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for takin the time to create that for me. I will have to look into continuing another semester at Coastline like you advised. I will see if I can get the accounting/economics done there this fall as well as the CSU course. That degree plan gives me a really good idea of what to tackle first once I can start testing out.

I really like it. No major complaints other than they just increased tuition lol. For military, they are just as expensive as going to a four year school tbh. Ive had to contact several departments via email and they are always really responsive and eager to help.

Classes are mostly self paced and super easy. Most professors don't have weekly deadlines for work so you can get everything done quickly if you want or wait until the last minute too. For instance, the Biology class I took was just 2- 30 question quizzes, a midterm/100 word essay response and final all open book. He also offered tons of extra credit I didn't even need.

The classes aren't really assignment heavy so small issues can really hurt your grade since there isn't much cushion I've learned. Only course I had an issue with so far has been Organization Behavior. Professor wasn't willing to work with me regarding a deadline even though my deployment caused me to miss only the last part of a three part discussion. It's supposed to be a military friendly school so it was kind of surprising and it really hurt my grade.
