I have finally completed all my degree requirements for a BS in Liberal Arts from Excelsior College. I would like to say THANK YOU to this forum. Especially Cookderosa, Sanantone, Nap, and Rebel100 (plus several others that I wish I could remember right now). I haven't posted much, I mainly just lurked . The heavy hitters on here have already covered most of the questions that could be asked, if you look for it. This forum has helped not only me, but my daughter and son. My daughter went to a local state school that seemed bent on making sure no one can finish on time. Classes would either be canceled or times would overlap another needed course. The advising was more of a hindrance than a help. Their arrogance was epic. It was going to be another year before she could finish the few classes she needed. She enrolled at Excelsior and was able to transfer in credits from her law enforcement academy that the state school wouldn't take (didn't fit their "requirements"). These credits finished out her degree minus Info Lit (she enrolled before the capstone requirement). The local school might have more rep here but with her career she has found a degree is a degree. It fills a promotion "check box". My son was home schooled due to a medical condition. He has been using CLEPs, DSSTs, and Straighterline. He is nearly done with his AS in Liberal Arts from Excelsior and plans to possibly continue on to a Business degree.
I have noticed a strong leaning on here for TESU over Excelsior. For me my prior credits fit Excelsior better. Being a few classes/exams closer was worth the extra money for me. I also have been very happy with the service I have received. The advisors have been very helpful. After my daughter's experience with the local state school, having advisors that don't tick me off has become very important . We actually considered TESU for my son. The cost savings of using TECEPs was huge. He applied and had his credits evaluated right when the "residency" rule change for the TECEPs. The cost was still cheaper but it wasn't as huge a difference. He was more comfortable with the CLEP/DSST exams than the TECEP exams and he HATED the Speech requirement. So Excelsior ended up being his preference. Even with the capstone he preferred this route. My two cents for anyone doing this is to look beyond just what is cheaper. Look at the whole package and decide which one meshes with your abilities and preferences. Especially if you are trying to motivate a home school kid .
Thanks again to everyone on this forum. You all are making a difference.
