Anyone in Minneapolis/St.Paul area care to weigh in on DSST testing locations? Options are really thin compared to CLEP.
There's nothing in either city proper, it seems, but there are a couple of private Christian schools in the N metro:
UNIVERSITY OF NORTHWESTERN - ST. PAUL
BETHEL UNIVERSITY
Not at all familiar with either school. Also, Bethel, seems to only have a few preset days for DSST and they won't work for me.
There's also: ANOKA-RAMSEY CC, but that's pretty far for me on a weekday.
Please tell me there is an option I'm missing. I'd MUCH prefer something in the south metro...

If you can't find a convenient option, there may be ways around the DSST, depending on which exams you want to take. If you let us know, we can come up with alternatives.

MIS is the test I'm after. This stemmed from this thread:
http://www.degreeforum.net/general-educa...redit.html
I was looking for quick-and-dirty UL Nat Sci/Math AOS credits. DSST seems like the best price and I'm confident in the material. I was planning another course, but I'm making slower progress than I'd like with my other courses this term and the MIS would lighten the load some since I'd have to study very little.

Not sure how you researched the available DSST testing sites? When I was testing the Prometric database did not offer a complete list of testing centers in my area. I had to research the individual school websites myself to narrow down the list. I started with the maximum distance I was prepared to drive and made a list of the schools. I located more than a few that proctored DSST exams but not all were available to non-enrolled students. I found the community colleges were both flexible and affordable (admin fees). You may want to start with the CCs in your general area and check the individual websites. Good luck!

Thanks for the tip. I tried at the places I've done CLEP and proctored tests (local CC's), but nothing. The three I listed here are from the DSST website. Looks like the "University of Northwestern - St Paul" is the best bet. $40 sitting fee and what seems like some flexibility in scheduling. They even have a link to IC as a "student recommended" study resource.

Ah...of course this is a difficult one to find an alternative for. The only one I know of is Ed4Credit.com, Managing Information Systems, $300. No textbook needed, they include everything in the price of $300, including testing through ProctorU. 4-month maximum timeframe.
Not the cheapest alternative, but certainly easier than finding a test center nearby.
Oh yeah, and it's considered LL (the DSST is UL). But I have no idea what it will transcribe as, or if you need the UL credits.
Good luck!

Thanks, bricabrac. I looked at the Bloomington Prometric center (I've taken exams for trade certs there before). When I clicked on DSST on their site, it sent me back to the same list I saw before that does not include them... I got confused an gave up. I'll call on Monday.

The TESU ACP equivalency page shows the Ed4Credit course as transcribing as CIS-301 (same as the DSST from what I understand). To the best of my knowledge, it's considered UL area of study for my program.
I was hoping to get some feedback on the Ed4Credit course on the thread I started, or answers from them on the questions I had (about pacing, number of assignments, etc) but I've not heard anything yet. I'm totally willing to pay the extra if it makes my life simpler, but I need a little more info before I go that way.
Hopefully this Prometric site in Bloomington pans out and I'll be all set.
Thanks for the help!

Yes, it's UL. I forgot about that equivalency chart, I was just looking at the ACE recommendation (which is LL). If TESU says it's UL, then it's UL for all majors.
