I've been helping a friend plan his degree. He is an adult, married, with numerous children and a full time job in a bank so attending school the old fashioned way is out of the question. I've directed him towards Charter Oak State College and Straighterline. I purchased a bunch of the textbooks and he is pounding away at the courses in about one every day or two (he is currently on 6 weeks of parental leave due to his most recent child).
Given his background in Finance he is leaning towards a Bachelors Degree in Business. So far he is loving straighterline, its very convenient and straightforward and he can take his tests via webcam at times that his wife is looking after the kids.
Eventually we are going to exhaust the supply of relevant straighterline courses.
I have been browsing the forms looking for where to direct him next. I like the looks to the TESCE exams, as well as the Saylor Academy exams. I've also founds a site called study.org which seems to have some of the Major courses available almost this site seems most expensive than straighter line.
In fact most of his necessary upper level courses seem to be available via DSST. Here is the problem. He is in Canada, in Southwestern Ontario specifically. From my understanding CLEP and DSST require testers to by physically present to the the test (no straighterline webcam type option). According to the DSST website the closest testing centre is Hamilton Ontario which is at least an hour drive away for him. I can see that DSST uses an organization called Prometic to do their testing. There is a Prometic testing centre in London Ontario which would be convenient to attend.
Does anyone know if DSST courses can be done at any Prometic testing centre or does it have to be the Hamilton or Toronto locations listed on the website?
Another question about CLEP. I enjoy the layout of modernstates.org which prepares students to take CLEP courses, does this website allow for testing via webcam or is CLEP in person testing only as well ?
I've gotten the ball rolling, but I dont want to steer him wrong. You guys are the experts. Help me guide him !
