DSST Question

I am anxiously awaiting hearing from TESC on my evaluation and am thinking about starting on a few DSST prep in the interim....

Can you weigh in on how much study prep you needed? I have 3 yrs B&M tranferring in and 20 years business experience but this is all new to me!

I'm taking my last exam and applying for graduation from TESC on Monday. Following a strict routine I studied 1-2 days for most of the CLEP/DSST exams and 2-3 days for the upper-level ECE exams. I managed to earn 30 CLEP credits with 0 study.
You may find that your business background gives you a tremendous advantage and the best way to determine that would be to start off with the free practice exams on the Peterson DOD website. I don't have the link at hand but it can easily be found with the forum search function.

Agreed. Do the Peterson practice tests. If you pass, you should be fine. I also think you should take a moment on "how to take a test". Taking a test on a computer is also a completely different experience. There are lots of great tips, like the 3 pass system. I guess everyone knows, first pass through just read the questions, answer what you instantly know. If unsure, or you need to think, just mark the question and go on. Second pass consider those harder questions, and third pass start guessing the ones you have no idea on (when time is low). Sometimes the way you take a test is as important as how you study for it.

You didn't study at all for the french clep? I had 3 years of french in high school about 20 years ago but I did get a french immersion CD set which I have gone over and I was surprised at how much I remembered. I also read somewhere in these forums that the French in Action videos were a great resource for the listening portion of the clep exam. I remember watching those on our local PBS tv station years ago. Made me smile watching them again online.

Awesome job. Your routine must have worked well, based on the test scores in your sig. Can you give more details about your routine? (Hours per day, methods of study, etc)

What is your background with french & did the clep exam seem difficult to you?

13 years of study and 15 years of disuse. For me the hardest parts of both language exams were the long audio comprehension sections because you had to remember what I thought were unimportant details. One section was a travel agent describing a vacation package in great detail and in the end you had to match 5 or 6 islands to their planned activities! Short-term memory aside, if you can hold a legimate conversation with a native, it shouldn't be difficult to get the 12 credits.
