DSST Paper-Based and Refreshed?
#11
NAP Wrote:There have been some surprising developments in the DSST story. The testing center was told by DSST that the test is valid, but it is an old version that will receive a 2-digit score. Excelsior has said it is fine to take the old version as long as DSST says the test is valid.

I think this will give me the unexpected opportunity to receive some graded credits. Studying has been more difficult than I expected; it has been like learning a new language. I am not entirely sure I want a grade for this, but I think I will try it anyway. Since I am not in a hurry to finish my degree, hopefully I can take the new version that is pass/fail at a later time, if needed.

It's good to hear that Excelsior is accepting the old version of the test if the test center offers a valid DSST test. I have yet to take a DSST, and my first one will be a week from tomorrow (Principles of Finance). My test center only offers paper and pencil tests as they too are a small center (they have to order the tests and booklet manually about a week before testing so that they can get them in time for my test date). I haven't asked them whether it's a two or three digit score, i just assumed all tests were refreshed to the new three digit format. If it's paper and pencil, is it safe to assume that it is the old two digit score? I'm trying to get as many graded exams as possible to make the 60 credit cutoff for latin honors at EC.

Hi bllyshrs!

No, as MISin08 said paper-and-pencil based DSST exams can be 3-digit scores. I would assume that since your test center is ordering them just before you take the tests that the exam is a new refreshed version. (Only about 10 of the 30+ exams have been refreshed recently and have the new scoring system. The rest are still graded.)

My experience was different because the test center already had copies of these tests and did not need to order them for me. It is good news that Excelsior will accept them. It has made studying a little confusing, though.

Best wishes on your exam!
