DSST Environment and Humanity Feedback
#1
I took this test today. I am not sure if I passed but I have to say I don't think most people would pass just using Instacert on this one. There were ALOT of questions that weren't covered in IC. There is a good post on here about things to study. I took a class that covered this material so I may have passed . . .I hope! Again, if you take this exam make sure you use something other than IC. I took one of the exams on the DDST site and there were a few similar questions on the actual exam. I'd say there were about 12-15 questions were I had no idea what the right answer was so I had to guess. I think there were a few clues in the exam/questions that if you'd pid attention you could find the answer but I will know for sure when I find out if I actually passed.

Any specific areas you felt were inadequately covered, off the top of your head?

Something about a defibrillator??. There two questions on this and one answer option was something about creating artifical precipitation. I picked that its purpose was reducing emmissions from smokestacks since there were two questions on it and it was the only consistent answer option between the two. There was a question on some grouping of chemicals (or something) that I never encountered in class or in IC. Couldn;t even begin to tell you what it was. Again, it is hard to say since the questions that I didn't know I really had never even seen before. The others I felt I could make an educated guess since there would typically be one answer option that I recognized. There is a post on here about knowing the role of the EPA, what country produces the most waste that is spot on. I would recommend that IC incorporate the questions in this post into the study materials since I believe every single item on the post was on the exam. If I think of anything else I will post again.

There was a question on what fuel is produced from the fumes/combustion?? of waste materials?? answer options were propane, ethane and two other "ane" fuels.

Two questions relating to the charcteristics of the troposphere and stratosphere which I knew the answers to from my class. (Possibly one question on where weather takes place.) Nothing pertaining to the layers beyond the stratosphere however.

Just wanted to post my score for this exam. I passed with a 53, phew! If you happen to be a Thomas Edison student and don't like science, I recommend taking Global Environmental Change for 6 credits and this exam right after you finish the class to knock out your 9 science requirements. Use IC to study and read the posts in this forum to help you target supplemental material.
Credits to date:
84 -Traditional
6-CLEP Analyz. & Inter. Lit (68)
3-CLEP Princ. of Mgmt. (73)

I supplemented my studies on Wikipedia by reading up on ecology for an hour. Some of the stuff overlapped with Astronomy (earth atmosphere stuff) so I was good from there.

I stumbled on the questions about the food chain.

11 CLEP attempted - 24 credits awarded (5 unsuccessful)
