Simply the following equation: √32 - √8.
Why is this not 2√2 ? (which was not a choice)
√32 = √4.4.2 = 4√2 SIMPLEST TERMS -- √8. = √2.2.2 = 2√2 SIMPLEST TERMS
so 4√2 - 2√2 = 2√2
Below I've pasted the problem and the (incorrect?) solution given.
Question 20 of 75
Simply the following equation: √32 - √8.
√8 - 2√2
12 - √8
2√8 - 2√2
√24
Explanation
2√8 - 2√2.
√32 - √8 = √(4 * 8) - √(4 * 2) = √4 √8 - √4 √2 = 2√8 - 2√2

Their answer isn't in simplest terms, but it IS the only answer that is actually equal to the original equation. It is a simpler version of the original.

davewill is correct. 2√8 - 2√2 actually does equal 2√2 and like he said they merely stopped at that step instead of simplifying further. Does the question specifically say simplest terms or does it only say to simplify? I've had some classes were they want you to only go so far with an equation, not necessarily all the way to the "end". At any rate you got the right answer :hurray:
