Credit for ALEKS Corp (McGraw Hill) Online courses in College Algebra & Statistics
jadechow Wrote:And to vent just a teensy bit - it is taking Ace forever to credit my first course!!! It was "approved" on 11/16/09 and still not credited yet. Ok, maybe not forever, but still a long time. I mean 6 days in "Clep time" is like a year, right? Big Grin Thanks, I feel better now.

Jadechow,

My son finished his second ALEKS course on 11-10 and it has been sitting at ACE since then. I have called twice and each time was told that it would show up tomorrow, that was last Wednesday-still isn't listed yet. It took my son 6 days to complete the course yet ACE hasn't done their job in 12 days. Pretty sad!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe ACE to be a relatively small non-profit given the scope of activities they take on. Given the increasing popularity of alternative educational programs like ALEKS they might be pretty swamped right now. Add to that the 4th quarter vacation hits most organizations take in their staffing and you may be waiting for a bit. Smile

While I do not disagree that Ace is probably doing their best, their website does set the expectation by saying that "This usually takes between 24-72 hours to complete. You will receive an email when processing is complete. Approved transcript courses will be listed under the Transcript Courses tab and are available on your transcript. Please feel free to contact ACE Credit if you have not received your email or your courses do not appear under the Transcript Courses tab after 72 hours."

Having said that, I did speak to an extremely pleasant young lady at Ace this morning. She said they are working through a backlog right now with the goal of having it done by the holiday. I didn't think to ask at the time but I'm hoping the "holiday" she referred to is Thanksgiving. Big Grin

She did assure me that once you have the "APPROVED - SUBMITTED TO ACE FOR PROCESSING" message you can move on to the next Aleks course. She said that at that point Ace has everything they need from Aleks it's just a matter of paperwork on Ace's end. I know, I know, that's a scary option for many out there. But I am going to have to move on to my next course because my son is out of town this week and it's a great time for me to sit in my pjs and get college credit! Ah, the joys of online classes! Smile

I also spoke with someone at ACE this morning, who also said the same thing as you were told. Yes, it is a scary thought for my son or anyone for that matter having to redo a course, but I have spoke with 3 people now at ACE that have assured me that once approved the info is there and not to worry about it. So that being said, I think my son will go ahead and start his next course.

Tell your son I said good luck with his next Aleks course. If it's College Algebra, he and I will be classmates. Well, not really - but suffering through the same stuff at around the same time! Cool

Best wishes to him!!

Kelly,

Thanks for the well wishes. I will pass them along to my son. Yes, he is starting College Algebra. He started his first assessment a few minutes ago. Now I will see how much is actually sticking with him as it's been 13 days since he last logged into Aleks. He loves the program but his words to me while ago BEFORE I changed his course were "Are you absolutely sure that I won't lose my credits from Intermediate Algebra since it's not on my ACE report?"
I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed hoping that I didn't misinform the child.
Good luck to you also as you start your new course!!

Jana
I am starting my first Aleks course. Does anyone know if College Algebra with Trig course will fulfill the math requirements for TESC? Thanks
Hey, just an update (since I was quick to complain figured I'd better report good news too). My Beginning Algebra hit my Ace transcript yesterday. I am still waiting on Intermediate Algebra to get credited but Ace has only had that 1 since Friday so it's no big deal.

I am doing the assessment (taking my time so I can score as high as possible) for College Algebra and all I can say is Wow. Math is hard. I have a new, sincere respect for anyone who understands this stuff. I would rather read Beowulf (in Old English) than do this. But, do it I must. And will. I hope.

Happy Tuesday everyone.

Kelly,

My son received an email from ACE yesterday afternoon with an apology for the inconvenience note and his Intermediate Algebra posted this morning which was a nice relief to see.

I think my son shares your sentiment on the WOW factor, he said earlier today to me that the college algebra was a lot tougher than what he was doing in the other two courses. The Beginner took him 16 days (35 hours) and the Intermediate took him 6 days (14 hours) to complete. Listening to him today, I think College Algebra may just take a bit longer. Although I feel confident that he will know the material when he is finished. Aleks seems to be a great way to go.

We are upon the holidays thats why im guessing. Because everytime that i listed a aleks course the system validated it and then it was on my transcript in three days 5 at the worst.
